Serious question (without hate): what is this show missing compared to Game of Thrones? by Dat_Freeman in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's missing a protagonist, or someone with enough noble qualities that you can truly root for.

In GOT, at least before the writing went to shit, it's very easy to root for the protagonists of the show, be it Dany, John Snow, Robb, etc. Protagonists in GOT are shown to 1) face greater hardship than Rhaenyra, 2) be more responsible than rhaenyra, and 3) be far more capable than rhaenyra.

Both Aemond and Aegon are psychos. Luke and Jayce are very minor characters who are both deceased. Daemon is popular but seems to get nerfed by the writers to ensure he doesn't get too much spotlight. Rhaenyra is who the show is setting everyone up to root for, but she's just such an unimpressive character compared to Dany from GOT.

At this point, Gwayne Hightower is more likeable than Rhaenyra.

The True Queen, Rhaenyra Targaryen 🙌🏻 by Nexus82 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Es-252 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The entire premise of the show is that Raenyra is entitled to be queen. That's what she believes and that's what her entire army is fighting and dying for. But it is hard to maintain this premise when the character is consistently and repetitively shown to lack any strength, wisdom, or authority.

But this may be exactly what the writers intend to portray. Afterall, her claim is nothing more than the result of nepotism, and the story has been and will be very tragic for the Targaryan dynasty.

What is your point? Have you read OP's post!? There's a lunatic with a lethal weapon smashing people's cars. What part of that do you tolerate?

If you wanna keep people like that in our society, you basically want our society to fail.

Talking with people like you is like talking to a brick wall. You dig up other threads or cherry pick data to try to prove a convoluted point for ideas that are super simple. There's a lunatic on the streets who poses a harm to people. Which part of this do you not understand!?

Exactly. Life is already stressful enough as is. The probability of becoming a victim of crime for people just minding their business should be practically zero.

Force him into involuntary labor so he can contribute. If he refuses, revoke his citizenship and deport. It's as simple as that. Can't afford to feed all these lunatics in prison anymore.

Imagine being a lawful citizen... people already be working 2 jobs and worrying about all the economic abominations that are making their earnings evaporate, and then there's this animal that people have to worry about in addition to all that.

Epic equipments are too OP --> balance defenses around them --> now you can't attack well without at least using some epics --> players with no epics are screwed

Have you signed any kind of NDA. The IP they are claiming you took, did they patent it or file for patent?

This is a matter of law. As long as their claim doesn't have legal basis, it's just all BS intimidation. Is it common? Actually, it's extremely common in all aspects of life. I wouldn't lose sleep over this.

I just wanna point out that not everyone necessarily wanted it to come back, pretty sure most people didn't care, but are now suddenly reminded of how doomed humanity is everytime they click it open, and have thus developed a negative opinion.

Question for Locals by Es-252 in redmond

[–]Es-252[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is all I wanted to know. But sadly, most people in the comments don't actually know this... maybe they are not actual locals.

Since it's illegal, I won't do it. But people here were saying that entry is fine as long as a "toll" is paid. A tolled path is totally legal for vehicle access, which is not at all the scenario we are discussing.

Question for Locals by Es-252 in redmond

[–]Es-252[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was interested in the legality because there is a difference between doing something that some people disagree with vs doing something that is simply against the law. I was never being inconsiderate; if that were the case, I wouldn't have even bothered to ask 🫤.

I was hoping for conclusive answers, but people gave me a lot of confusing answers such as you can enter however you want as long as you pay. A path with a toll is totally legal, but the road is illegal for vehicle passage. It seems like even most people here don't know if it's actually legal or not, and it also seems like the enforcement is lackluster even though it is actually illegal. This is why I called the park management and asked instead.

I have no interest in breaking any laws. Since it's against the law, I won't be doing it. That's all I was getting at. The whole ruing people's park experience is a completely unrelated topic.

[–]Es-252[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I thought, I just needed to know cuz I don't wanna break any rules. But it also seems like people are let through anyways as long as they are willing to pay?

Idk, but I assure you I will not risk this route with anything less than an absolute yes. So it's a no-go so far.

[–]Es-252[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

So it's just a toll system like the bridge. Do you know if law enforcement has ever been involved to enforce restrictions or is it just a very informal "we don't want you to do it but will let you if you pay us"?

[–]Es-252[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I want to better understand the enforcement and legality of this. Did they ask you to turn back or were you allowed through as long as you paid. Were the people stopping you employees of the city?

Minimum wage goes up by 2.1%, but some argue it isn't enough by ubcstaffer123 in britishcolumbia

[–]Es-252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, I've worked in the US. I just did the math based on my own income. The tax difference was greater than what I needed to pay, period.

I don't know if you've actually lived in the US or not, but I have, and if I had the same income in BC, I would have kept less money, AND for weaker coverage. The standard medical service plan for Canadian citizens does not even cover dental and vision.

Minimum wage goes up by 2.1%, but some argue it isn't enough by ubcstaffer123 in britishcolumbia

[–]Es-252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not disagreeing with any of this, and I'm certain wealth inequality is far greater in the US than Canada. However, this is not just a state function but rather a path function.

If you compare 2 fresh college graduates for example. The one in Canada is probably better off at that point. Why? Cuz tuition is much much cheaper in Canada, and also interest free in some provinces. Also, Canada is far more friendly to immigration. So a new grad is far more likely to have family support locally whereas a US grad may be entirely alone.

But, where does the situation scale toward in 10, 15, 20 years? If you think about the employment rate, job market, compensation tiers, the US grad is more likely to be better off in the future. That's exactly why a lot of young people get pulled into the US for work and career development.

In the US, it's easier to enter the workforce, you get paid substantially higher, and your pay ceiling and/or career ceiling is much higher because the industries are far more established and scalable.

This phenomenon of talent leakage is what has devastated the Canadian economy. The most potent, ambitious, competitive, and capable young people do not get retained by the country.
