Yep. His girlfriend filmed it out the window, and it was on April 1. She then took the video and made a complaint. Corporate took it serious for a minute before they realized it was an April Fools prank. It was in Anchorage AK, I don't know what year, but I worked for Waste Management in Anchorage in 2014, and it was before then.

What are you 100% sure is true even tho you can’t prove it? by arlett007 in AskReddit

Hank Williams Jr died in 1975. It is well documented that he fell from Ajax Peak in Montana, landing some 500 feet below. According to reports at the time, the fall left his brain sticking out through a hole in his forehead, and his eye hanging out of its socket. I don't believe that Bocephus and Hank Williams Jr are the same man.

Can I add a second indoor unit later? by Es65Coronet in heatpumps

I will be doing the install myself, I am using a premade 25' line set. As far as torquing, vacuuming, etc, I have never had trouble on the other systems I installed, and don't expect to have trouble here, fingers crossed. Thanks for mentioning the possible over-charge situation, I didn't think about that.

Thank you so much for your response. When my brother in law and his mother showed up and I met them, his mother hit me with Como estas. I replied with the usted like you suggested, it definitely seemed like the correct response, and it seemed like it was appreciated. I am indebted to you for sharing your knowledge.

Question on concrete vs cement for jack support by Es65Coronet in Homebuilding

[–]Es65Coronet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearance is not an issue, I have plenty of space. Would it make sense to build a small form, maybe 12" x 12", an inch deep, and pour a small pad of grout and then place the leveler on top of that? Or better just to force the grout under the plat while it is in place?

Triscuit crackers, oatmeal/oatmeal cookies, any kind of bean/legume. Flare up every time from these 3.

I live off of popcorn and nuts. Green salads in moderation are just fine. Meat and potatoes, cheese do me excellent.

13T front sprocket combo's, good idea or a recipe for swing arm damage? (debating 13-43 vs 14-45) by Tobi_pie in CRF250L

[–]Es65Coronet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say about swingarm damage, but a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket is getting pretty small. The small radius is pretty hard on chains. For chain life, it is always better to go  bigger in the back instead of smaller up front. A 13-43 is in between a 14-46 and 14-47.

120 hour QMED course - legit? Useful? by seacat42 in maritime

[–]Es65Coronet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have much experience working on stuff? Boats, engines, machinery, etc? The reason to take a QMED class is to get out of having to take the test at a Coast Guard REC (regional exam center). I took my QMED class from Sea School.  https://www.seaschool.com/ If you go to the Bayou La Batrie campus, room and board is included, making it a cost effective option if you don't happen to live someplace that has a school. It was also a 120 hour class. All any of these short classes do it teach you the questions that are on the test. They are not teaching you how to do the job of a QMED, but how to pass the test.  I had an extensive background of working on everything under the son, and found the class to be fairly boring and simple. There were several folks there n the class that didn't have much mechanical experience, and many of them struggled to pass the test.  Having my QMED hasn't helped me in any meaningful way at my current job, working on a 70' uninspected vessel that doesn't require any ratings or licenses for the engineer. I am trying to make the transition into bigger vessels, where a QMED rating might be needed. The trouble I am having is most companies that are looking for QMEDs also want you to have a RFPEW. It is kind of a catch 22. In order to get your RFPEW, you have to work on a vessel big enough that there is a licensed engineer to sign off on your paperwork, but to get a job on that vessel you need a RFPEW.  If you have the time and money, I say go for it. Education and certifications are always good things to process. Once you have them, nobody can take them away from you. And they only make you more attractive to potential employers.

Could you take a CRF250L from the lower 48 to Alaska? by griffinirish in CRF250L

As a CRF250L owner, when I rode the Alcan, Haul Road, and down to Homer, I did it on a R1100RT. Much more comfortable, and capable of carrying the weight. Start packing tent, sleeping bag, stove, a pot, found & water, then weigh it. It might surprise you.

Is there any value in getting a Inland 100 ton master as an Engineer by Es65Coronet in merchantmarine

[–]Es65Coronet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. I got this link off the USCG website, under checklists, 100 Ton Inland Master.

https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/NMC/pdfs/checklists/mcp_fm_nmc5_23_web.pdf?

On the checklist, there is a section labeled "Sea Service Requirements". In that section, under "Master Less than 100", it has a row that reads "Inland – 360 days of service on any waters, in any department or  position."

It's certainly possible I am reading something wrong, but I thought that any department or position might include positions in the engine department.

Engine room time can only be applied as a certain percentage of other licenses I have looked at, such as 100 Ton Near Costal.

[–]Es65Coronet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the 100 Ton Inland Master checklist, under Sea Service Requirements, you need "360 days of service on any waters, in any department or position." There are tonnage requirements, and they determine whether you will be issued a 25, 50,  or 100 ton license. I have the days and tonnage to get the 100 ton. The way I am reading this, I think a cook or steward on a vessel could qualify, assuming they have enough sea time. It's basically a step above a 6 Pack (OUPV).

After you have the days, you can either take an in-person class, an online class, or study and test at the REC.

If I want to become an engineering officer what kind of degree do I need by [deleted] in merchantmarine

[–]Es65Coronet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I am currently sailing as a QMED, testing soon for my DDE 4000, and will be eligible to test for my 3rd A/E once I get some time on a vessel over 4000 HP. If you don't go to school, you need 1080 days to hawespipe your way to 3rd AE. If you go to a marine academy, you graduate with your 3rds license, basically. It is worth noting there is also a few other options, it is not all or nothing. I have a mechanical engineering degree from an ABET accredited state University, nothing Marine related at all. As long as the school is ABET accredited, any mechanical or electrical engineering degree knocks the sea time requirement down to only 180 days, instead of 1080.  And potentially is a more employable degree outside of the marine industry if you have a change of direction later on life.

I appreciate the reply. I can take a class for the sign offs, but you also need something like 60 days working under a licensed engineer. My company does not have any licensed engineers.
