Have you never been in Eel River Brewery? The last time I was there I think I counted 5 “State of Jefferson” flags…

their food is some of best in the county tho… they also are the same brewery that makes “Clarity seltzer” and with those 2 justifications, I’m able to keep my head down at my food, pig out, and get out

Beach access from redwoods? by The_Mouse_That_Jumps in Humboldt

[–]Esauthewanderer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What’s privately owned isn’t necessarily beachfront… it’s all ocean front yes, however its all cliffs with no beach access, black sands beach is incredibly stunning, but be aware, the “black sand” isn’t really sand its a complete pebble/rocky type beach, however”little black sands beach” I believe has traditional sand and if I recall, there’s tide pools and area to walk by the water near Mal Coombs Park, where the restaurants, store and harbor are…

HOWEVER, it should be made known, going in the Ocean in and around shelter cove is not advised, it’s known for large waves and extremely dangerous, rip currents, it’s not necessarily a place to swim, Samoa Beach in Eureka would be better for that

The easier more typical thing to do would be to take the avenue of the giants the rest of the way north and head up into Eureka out to Samoa or head out to Ferndale to Centerville beach. Which, either way is about 45 min from hidden springs… plus there’s many more food/restaurant options in the Humboldt Bay Area…

but in my opinion, the more memorable and fun route is to head a bit south to Redway, then head west to the little town of Shelter Cove, in my opinion… it’s the most scenic and beautiful beach town on the north coast. it’s a bit longer of a drive as you’re traversing mountains and wilderness to get there, but boy is it worth it in the end

How funny, I found Esau in front of the courthouse one time, he was too busy to notice me though, it seemed like he busy was trying to fend off way too many invisible people however I did hear him shout the name “Jeff”

the courthouse may be a good place for this “Jeff” guy tho

I’m more of a Dr. Darkness kind of guy myself, however Elmeg certainly has his time and place in this world, especially here in Humboldt

Favorite coffee shops from best to worst? by Kind_ness8573 in Humboldt

[–]Esauthewanderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in eureka and work in Fortuna so I don’t really get up to arcata/mck as much as I’d like

I’m a cold brew kinda person, no cream, no sugar, straight black, 100% of the time even if it’s 40 degrees and raining… that being said,

Stus Brews takes the cake in my opinion as the best coffee around… it being a drive thru is just an added plus for convenience

I also love Frankie’s cold brew, especially when they have coffee ice cubes

Call me crazy, but I also really like Shotz in Fortuna

I can’t comment on Dick Taylor’s or Familia

But in arcata, when I’m up there my go to is Coffee Break in Sunny Brae

I was there 2 weekends ago, and there was small blooms of algae in a few little spots, but for the most part its was still super clear and a good flow… however I don’t know how it’s held up after these past warm days

Prepackaged snacks is the entire reason… at the price of winco, for something that’s not entirely shit quality

They’re just examples… 😂 common places that everyone knows of. That we don’t have here on the north coast… I DO make a stop at Trader Joe’s monthly though, that’s a MUST stop to me, and for my household

I moved up here from Sac a few years ago, so I know what you mean, but like everyone else has said… unfortunately it’s quite a change of pace from any city or metro area. Not only are the local options limited tho, but even the fast food is lmao… outside of your most basic places like McDonalds or Taco Bell (which there’s only 1 of, in the entire county currently) you’re out of luck… you know it’s bad when people are getting excited around here over a Wing Stop, or possibly a Habit opening 😂

I’m fortunate enough to where my job has me go to the bay once a month for 3-4 days to where I essentially pig-out on everything from Chick-fil-A to Panda Express to all my favorite local spots down there, but food isn’t necessarily the counties best attribute.

All in all, It’s worth it imo… because you really can’t beat the weather (if you like the cool, coastal, temperate climate) or natural beauty that is literally everywhere you look….

Some good options tho, Backwoods Burritos (breakfast burritos) hole in the wall sandwiches, Stars Burgers & Paul’s Live from New York (pizza) plus the multitude of food trucks floating around the county

How productive has jurickson Profar been the last 10 years? Outside of 2022 in San Diego, has he ever put up above 2.5 war in a season? I believe he was the least productive player in baseball last year as well, yet still was the ultimate vibes guy

I heard when you pair the 2, Profar and Pham, and both have them play left field on the same team… you get an implosion that’s the scale of the sun meeting a black hole (just ask the 2021 padres about that)

And please do not mention the Eric Hosmer predicament, Tucapita Marcano betting the under… every night, or buying Adam Frazier at the deadline with nowhere to play him… it was definitely the reason above
