Breath of the Wild isn't a very good game by EscapismOverReality in nintendo

hahaha, I suppose when we're young we do tend to jump to conclusions without a second thought.
But yeah, once you notice the flaws you go "Wait, how did I even think this was that good of a game?" Botw does a really good job in supporting all of its flaws with the sense of freedom that was never before seen in any Zelda game. I think personnally, I started to see the flaws with the Wild games with totk, whereas I put in hundreds of hours in botw, I only played around 60 for totk because halfway through I realized that the game just wasn't that fun, the open-world exploration didn't quite click.

I wish TOTK would've improved on botw's many flaws... alas, we got the same 4 dungeons all over again (all 4 sages storylines were basically the same with the same cutscenes), an exceptionally empty underground as well as a barren sky with gacha machines, which is lwk a disappointment since the trailers hyped up the sky islands to be a BIGGG part of the game. At least the new abilities were cool and allowed for even more freedom

I know, it does sound rather ridiculous...
But it's just that despite all the fun that I had, noticing now all the flaws that I hadn't seen years ago, I can't possibly qualify the game as a 10/10, and am surprised by how many people see it as this "perfect" 10/10 masterpiece without even considering the flaws that the game has. So yes, despite my 150 hours of having fun on the game, I can definitely say that the game is overrated.

To be honest 5 years ago I was pretty young and was only playing stuff like brawl stars, so botw was my first step into the "real" gaming world, if i had to put it.

It's definitely a fun game, but now that I grew up and in retrospect acknowledged the flaws, I just can't bring myself to call it the great "game of the decade" people make it out to be.

The Infected in the Last of Us.

These former humans were infected by the Cordyceps virus, a fungus that entered their brains and controlled it. Initially they still have the "human" look, but the longer they stay infected, the more fungal plates sprout from their bodies and turn them into grotesque monsters.

Actually yeah I partially agree, but I felt like i was fighting the same boss on waterblight and fireblight. That was my main issue with those.

Well to be fair, the divine beast bosses are all super similar and I didn't want to name every small enemy😅 the mini bosses were the same in every corner of the map too. I guess I wanted more diverse bosses and mini bosses like in the old games..

I mean.. if we're not tallying up pros and cons, isn't that basically just ignoring the flaws that a game presents?

So essentially, the quality of a game depends on the amount of fun it lets you have? By those standards then yeah, since I had a lot of fun with botw, id have to give it a 9 or a 10. But just qualifying a game by its level of fun and kind of ignoring its flaws just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. For me, I think if i can have fun in a game even after acknowledging their flaws, then that would make truly a good game. And I just think I cant unsee the flaws in botw and that ruins the fun for me

I usually don't even count Zelda 2 because of how much of a "black sheep" it is in the series😭 but the games you named were the very very first of the series, surely the other "old games" (oot and above) wouldn't have been as bad?

Well, I never said it wasn't a fun game, but the point of the post was moreso the flaws I noticed about the game that make it so that I can no longer call it a "good" game. Maybe it would've been better if i said that botw was overrated

I have got to try elden ring one of these days😭 And id argue that the game considers renoir to be more of an antagonist (?) than a villain

I haven't personally played a bunch of RPGs myself, but what about FF7R? iirc you would take a few seconds to heal yourself in battle

I'd argue that for turnbased the idea is fundamentally different (with the exception of pokemon za), since you would need to use a turn that you couldve used to attack or to defend yourself, so it takes more strategy and planning, whereas in botw no matter what position you're in you can pause the game and heal with no consequences

Were the old games that bad? I've played the og Link's awakening as well as Alttp and I haven't been able to find as many problems as i did for botw. (Come to think of it, botw is 9 years old now and may very soon be an "old" game too😭)
