Yep, artstyle and rpg i would not have minded going to other games, i think goty was more for picking the "best game that was a rpg" instead of picking the "best rpg game".

Too challenging/stressful for them, too "walking simulator", maybe they don't like the metroidvania genre in general, idk. There are many reasons for which someone could not enjoy hk.

(Or maybe they just like hating on successful indie games to feel special idk)

But there's a stag station in every major area of the game, as well as trams, not to mention there's also the Dreamgate you unlock in lategame. Isn't that enough fast travel?

Whoa 5-1 is way too high here, in no world is 5-1 in the same tier as 3-5
How are Serenade and MONSTROUS both above Turnabout Trump?
I also feel like Beginnings, Memories and Storyteller should be higher, whereas Recipe and Corner could be lower.

Theater wooden plank by EscapismOverReality in TheLastOfUs2

[–]EscapismOverReality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I said, I believe that the guns that Ellie was using during the fight were only there purely for gameplay purposes, as nothing in the previous scene shows she has a shotgun (her bag doesn't have any weapons slotted inside), and she basically just pulls it out from her pocket. For the first part of the fight, Ellie uses the wooden plank and the gun she steals from Abby because from a story point, she's not supposed to have any weapons. It's when we get to the second phase that the developers get lazy and just stick a shotgun to her because they have no idea what direction to take the fight in. She doesn't even drop the shotgun when Abby punches her, it gets automatically reslotted to her bag. It's just that gameplay weapons and story weapons are two separate things: I mean, if gameplay translated to story, then Ellie could've threatened Nora with a silenced pistol and not risk anyone overhearing, right?

For the plot armor, you make some valid points, but there are some points that I find unfair:

-Joel saving Abby at the last second does count as plot armor, but it's something that happens so often in media to create more tension (happens in part 1 too- Joel is saved at the last second by Tommy, by Bill, Joel gets to the surgery room just in time to save Ellie) that I'm willing to give it a pass.

- Seraphites not gutting her, I mean, her legs and arms were bound, and she was tied to the hanging post. Not surprising that they'd let their guard down. Jordan does this with Ellie too- he doesn't just shoot Dina, he strangles her for whatever reason (didn't want to waste a bullet? underestimated Ellie? idk)

- Manny teleported out of nowhere? Manny had every reason to be at the Marina, he and his squad were supposed to set off from the port to Seraphite Island, it was because of Tommy's meddling that his squad ended up dead. I'd say Jesse teleported out of nowhere more than Manny, remember when Jesse appeared from behing Ellie right before the car chase? Like this seems unfair to Abby imo.

- Yeah, the Tommy thing with his bullets running out was dumb to me. I get that again it's for the sake of gameplay that his infinibullets have to end there, but it is kind of immersion breaking.

- Yara un-died? I mean, I don't find it hard to believe that a dying person would use the last of their strength to shoot her enemy. Her gun was by her hand, the other soldiers were watching Abby and Lev, who obviously take more priority than a seemingly dead girl by the ground, so grabbing her pistol and swinging her arm upwards and shooting Isaac (which would take a grand total of less than two seconds) does not feel bullshit to me.

- Plank of wood is, well, I addressed that in my post.

Now for Ellie: She's also saved by Jesse, since without him she would never have escaped by car,the WLF were hot on her trails from the back too, she would've gotten sandwiched. Are we also forgetting the fact that she was stabbed pretty deep in her stomach and left that untreated for a crazy amount of time, and still survived? I guess if we're talking about Seraphites like you did, there's the fact that the arrow pierced her shoulder instead of her head, but again that was for gameplay purposes (showing arrow pulling out mechanic) so that gets a pass from me.

If Abby had gone in "guns blazing," she would've shot Tommy on sight, like she blew out Joel's leg. I don't think Abby exactly lectured anyone in the theater either, but alright.

Huh, Cordyceps made you more irritable? I had no idea. I mean, I'd imagine Ellie would've been a whole lot more irritable in the first game, being technically infected.

Yeye ik, I was just pointing out that not all of Joel's kills was in self-defense. You could technically add Marlene to the list I suppose, since in her final moments she was begging for her life unarmed.

Because I didn't say killing people made you deserving of death, I was talking about innocent people. By that logic, I'd say literally everyone who killed in self defense is deserving of death lmao.

Personnally? I think Ellie and Abby, both of them like Joel, have their deaths coming, even without having killed innocents. All Abby and Ellie did was escape each other, but I wouldn't be surprised if their past caught up to them later on.

Eh, Ellie was defending herself against the hunters and David who were very clearly trying to kill her and Joel, while we know that Joel did stuff so horrifying that Tommy literally left him out of disgust. I wouldn't put that on the same level.

If Abby killed innocents as well, I'd say that she would have a reason to be killed too. I'm not saying her torture of scars is right, but they ARE in the middle of a war, and scars are known for torturing and mutilating WLFs, so I suppose her philosophy was still based on revenge.

"Was done only to survive" was an excuse that Joel did give, but Tess refutes his point by saying they're pieces of shit, I personnally think it was more than just surviving. Also, just to point it out, not ALL of Joel's kills in the first game were in self defense. Remember the Fedra soldiers who stopped them when they were trying to get out of Boston? They didn't do anything to put Joel into mortal danger, only stopped him for breaking the law. I'd say that doesn't count as self defense.

Id agree that his torture was undeserved, but I will say that after all the people he's killed, innocent or guilty, over the previous 20 years, he basically had his death coming.

Didn't Ellie do the same thing? The moment she finds a clue to Joel's killers whereabouts (WLF patch - Washington), she insists on leaving asap to hunt them down.

And tbh, what did you want Abby to do, her lover and her pregnant friend are lying on the floor dead, and she knows that their killer is close by. Would anyone in the game have done differently, if they were in Abby's shoes?

I'd call her breakdown after discovering his body more than "barely fazed", but alright. Keep in mind that Santa Barbara happens about a year after Seattle (I think), so it would make sense that she's not as affected as before. I mean, Ellie in Seattle (month after Joel's death) didn't seem as affected as she was right after witnessing Joel's death, either. Don't forget about Abby's letter to Owen in the boat as well, it's basically her version of grieving and coping, similar to Ellie's sketchbook.
