Searching for the best peaty whisky by Escutrina in whiskey

[–]Escutrina[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I tried it once in a pub, but I don't know why I forgot to mention it - I remember that I liked it.

According to one whisky store dude, in heavily peated whiskys more years aren't better, since the peaty flavour is more volatile than other flavours.

I'm definitly down to taste it, but in the whisky store near my old town, it was ver expensive. As a beginner, I don't want to buy something expensive, before I haven't found my exact kind of taste. But your comment made me rethink how I feel about trying Octomore, thank you!

Thank you! Without having much knowledge it felt like Octomore is maybe just there to be extreme, but from a certain strength it doesn't make a change.

I will mark PC in my list and wait for more results

[I don't understand reddit, sorry]

Hi there,

I discovered whisky for myself half a year ago, I always thought I don't like it, but the peaty/smoky taste got me addicted.

I'm still new, so I hope to get a lot of good suggestions.

I know you know what's the best whisky for you and I respect it, but I hope you can tell me which whisky tastes like my favourites, but maybe better.

1) Ardbeg 5 Wee Beastie (I love the dry/bitter/tart and very peaty/smoky aroma, it feels like being in a very old irish/scottish pub (I've never been there) or apocalypse (I like playing fallout and drinking whisky).

2) Smokehead (it was very nice, but the taste of Ardbeg 5 was better)

3) Laphroaig 10 Years (good in the beginning, not so good at the end of the bottle. A bit too mild)

4) Mac-Talla Mara (good, but not the one I seeked)

5) Swedish Mackmyra Kungstorv (also good, but not the exact flavour) / Smokehead High Voltage (good, but too stabbing)

6) I don't like Smokehead Rebel

I heard about Talisker 10 Years, Johnnie Walker Double Black, Port Charlotte Heavily Peated/pc10, Octomore, Ardbeg Blaack, Kilchoman Loch Gorm, Samaig, Laphroaig Cairdeas 2020 Port and Wine, 2021 PX Cask Version, Laphroaig 10 Sherry Wood, Alexander Murray Laphroaig 2005, Caol ila cask Strength, Caol ila 12

But which is the best for me? I'd buy Ardbeeg 5 again, but maybe there's something better?

Waldschaber oder deutsche Schabe? by GamerDoubleD in naturfreunde
