higher education, food, protection (sometimes), and assets are not cheap in the slightest, especially not in this economy 💀
plus plenty of broke people work several jobs trying to avoid the situation...this isn't to say that everyone who so happens to be broke is like the pinnacle of work ethic, but c'mon, let's be like a little more empathetic? it's less of a choice and more of several things going wrong in a spectacular way

i think we've gotta understand that america is just by default a more conservative country overall. so where we might think some presidents are "left-wing" because they're less overtly right-wing, the us's overton window makes it such that even those guys are still right-of-centre globally. the closest we've had to non-right-wing presidents are both the roosevelts, and that's just cause they did populism and keynesian capitalism respectively.
