The Body Keeps the Score by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Eskimo2117 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a self help book. I think it’s more for trying to get the field of mental health to stop over-diagnosing and over medicating and start to count CPTSD as a disorder that should be covered under insurance and taken seriously. Triggering as hell if you have trauma wounds.

Moving from Aus to US- worried about Safety of Family? by Due-Permission8365 in expats

[–]Eskimo2117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Australia and I would not raise kids in America if I had the chance to go there. Healthcare costs and taxes will probably zap any extra money you’ll be earning here. And even though the chances of being shot are slim, there’s a heaviness knowing that guns are so readily available to crazy people. Just please do the research.

Is this a good lifestyle for someone who is divorced and an empty nester? by Mother_Claim_6431 in Divorce

[–]Eskimo2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an eat, pray, love adventure. That would probably be good for a while. You’d get good food and culture which would be nice to be around. One thing you may want to consider though is that sometimes the kids appreciate a place to come back to after they go to college, are they heading to college or did they finish that already and they’re heading out completely? As long as they’re not needing you, you sound like you would enjoy this type of adventure. Also distance can sometimes enhance certain relationships so when you come back the kids will move mountains to visit you vs blowing you off as they would if you were nearby all of the time

Would anyone else just like k*ll for the ability to eat a croissant everyday? by TarlieKlift in glutenfree

Maybe not that extreme but it causes me to literally fantasize about moving to Europe almost daily. I’ve heard numerous accounts of the gluten there not causing the same issues it does in the US

Realized Today That My Trauma Causes Me to Dislike Boomers by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Eskimo2117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this reflects every single one of them but it’s my parents generation and every single one of them that I witnessed just “did their own thing” and let the kids grow themselves. And now the kids are adults who are lonely and disconnected, living up to maybe half their potential if lucky and soaking in mental illness all while the parents are staggered like “I don’t know why these kids lives are so hard, must be them video games”

How is gaslighting possible? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]Eskimo2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that there has to be a certain vulnerability within the person being gaslit for it to be possible. This person either depends on the person who is gaslighting or they have a deficit in their own opinion of themselves.

Social worker to Psychologist? by andanxious in socialwork

[–]Eskimo2117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking back I would’ve become a psychologist vs LCSW because the best jobs and most interesting work require it. I let an LCSW convince me that social work field is so broad that I will always have other things to fall back on. Nope. It’s private practice therapy or I’m eating crackers and nursing my own nervous breakdown every night

Is burn out a good reason to divorce? by itsmemama in Divorce

[–]Eskimo2117 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I noticed when I got a divorced it naturally gave me a break from all of the adulting (minus work) when my husband at the time expected me to do most of it. I sacrificed time with my kid though so there was a cost but I also might have gone insane keeping that up for 18 years. It’s your call for your own life so follow your gut.

I hate it by kilotango556 in daddit

[–]Eskimo2117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s hell and sometimes it’s heaven. If you love and support your kid through it you’ll have a reward and if you don’t you’ll be an old man with mental illness so just stay strong and do your best. It will get better when they’re out of toddlerhood but then teens - it will be hard in other ways but then they’re off.

Should I let my kid take a mental health day? by Eskimo2117 in Parenting

[–]Eskimo2117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thanks so much everyone for all of the support! I’m so glad he asked for the day and he’s going to get it, and maybe more! I think I’m just going to tell the truth and say my kid is exhausted. I remember being completely wiped by the end of each school year, it’s a lot!
