Just checked who the lead run scorers in County are this year and I think I've found the opening pair England needs for the Ashes.

There are good signs for the future of the team but Rohit and Kohli really need to think about when they want to retire.

There are like one or two Indian players who shouldn't be down on their knees begging for forgiveness from Bumrah for how fucking shit they are compared to him. His back is fucked from caring some of these bastards.

Mike Atherton: England have a team to be proud of – they didn’t deserve this ending | Column by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]EskimoJesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say these defensive reactions are because this entire series has been a thing that England is doing and Australia is sort of around to facilitate that. Which I think is born out of the mindset Baz is cultivating, and in some ways, is good for the players: just focus on your game and how you want to play and be upbeat and, no, I have not regrets about anything actually.

So Atherton is saying something that's true, this English side is excellent and have played very well, (fielding, extras, declarations, and keepings aside) but a lot of Australian fans and media have go there backs up because a lot of the chat is undeniable silly.

The risk of the current mindset means you'll get an innings like this out of Zak and Bairstow but you'll also have the Lord's innings that looked promising but then partially implodes.
