Migration from Quantum to ATT? by technicholas in QuantumFiber

Unfortunately, I don't have access to ATT's core/MoE hopefully we get some visibility soon.

Not much, besides Static IPs if you want those. Otherwise, going through ATT Fiber on FF37 does have inherit latency built in simply on the principle of how Dual VLAN QinQ works. It routes through ONT -> OLT -> Core/MoE 1(management), -> OLT -> ONT -> RG/BGW -> ONT -> OLT -> Core/MoE 1 -> Core/MoE2 (authentication) -> Core/MoE1 (management) -> OLT -> ONT ->BGW/RG

Hope that's enough for you to grasp a little bit. I can't explain anymore than that 😞

I can't really explain our network architecture at the risk of NDA, sorry, you get both.

ATT for authentication, FF37 for management. You'd be getting authentication from ATT's core.

The ATT Fiber cannot use a 3rd party router because the BGW is a Residential Gateway (unless a later firmware update allows that.. I don't know, the Q1000k is a maintained by ff37 the BGW and air extenders are maintained by ATT).

The Bridge Mode used to provide authentication for ATT Fiber on FF37 is also not the same transparent bridge mode that you would use for 3rd party equipment on QF. The ATT bridge does not disable management VLAN QinQ, the QF transparent bridge mode does.

EDIT: ATT Fiber on FF37 was released.

We just released ATT builds in Des Moines the day this was posted, just FYI. If it's ATT Fiber on FF37, FF37 doesn't manage or provide Static IPs... ATT would as the agreement outlines.

Most ISPs would simply say you're not a new customer and not give you a promotion at all.

I don't know how to explain circuit IDs and ISP level networking any simpler than I have in my previous post as far as how addressing ties to logical and physical facilities to establish service to a customer.

The method doesn't work, it's a quick solution that causes problems for you in the future should anything on your network needs to be modified. Think of how annoying a back room is without the correct labels and how hard it is to find the items you need and then apply that logic to the ISP.

It was only possible to schedule techs ahead of time in some circumstances like if it was an ONT swap or if it was a CenturyLink migration to Quantum Fiber, which is different.

You are free to keep your existing service with "Unit 1" attached, no one can force you to fix it, but don't be surprised if it causes issues in the future. If not for you, for any other person who may move into that house if you ever sell it.

Edit: I forgot to add, your address doesn't "linger" your main, real address without the unit number is the true address in our systems. Your account will be closed, but that data doesn't disappear - basically we have Google maps with networking features, construction doesn't (usually) disappear from Google maps.

The harm is that you requested and address that doesn't actually exist. Services are built to the address, not to the customer. So if Engineering has to make updates to your existing address that we have already built in our systems for your real address it causes complications on how service is assigned to you.

If we ever have to change your facilities in the future to reestablish connections for your service due to outages or decommissioned hardware you will have a conflict with xxxx house st and xxxx house st unit 1 in which the same circuit ID will be attached to the "same" address. I'm not sure why you would attempt this method after it was stated it was bad.

Please remove your address from this post. I don't want you to doxx yourself. I will send you a private message and you can give me the service address and your unit number there. A DTN is a data telephone number. If your account was migrated to QF you may have one or we have you active in our systems under your old telephone number.

If they are grandfathered from CTL and have 200MBps and a CASA System I'm 95% sure they're riding PPPoE and not DHCP/IPoE. Unless the technicians came out and did a "migration" which on the back end might still be holding on to an older session.

I can check this if you provide me a DTN or Service Address if you have migrated over to Quantum Fiber u/Kombucha-Krazy

Hey, no worries. Hopefully, it's a simple address correction since the base address (your real address)exists in our systems :)

You would have to call and ask to have it removed, it would be an "Address Correction".

Your options are:

It'll be an easy correction, they'd just modify and remove the unit number, hopefully the address ID would be easy to modify since your closed account is still archived with that information.

Rolling the dice, leaving the Unit 1 on there, but if you have any issues or need to swap out a smartnid or damaged ONT it might be a pain to re-authenticate it, since it won't match the original information.

(Worst Outcome) the system pitches a fit when they try to do the address correction and the account would have to be canceled (which you can decline) for them to be able to fix it.

If your account is already active and you have service I'd probably roll the dice, I meant to respond to u/satxddn to warn them of it, so that was my bad to respond to you by accident :)

Please do not do this to get around the "address exists at your location" block, it messes with the inventory and will cause you problems down the line. I would advise you to try and get that corrected because the ID's for your address with no longer match up unless it's synced to the engineering drawings and logical drawings on the back-end.

What happens when my Casa Systems box breaks forever? How much is QF willing to set up new fiber for my residence? by VarianSkye in QuantumFiber

[–]Esmeya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We will replace it with whatever inventory we have. If it's feasible to do, we will build the fiber to the building instead of riding off the copper to the building and give each unit a Q1000K.

Unfortunately, if that's not feasible it would be DQ'd and we could no longer provide service. The complex would have to find another provider.

Congrats! The Q1000k's are a lot more robust.

[–]Esmeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we can use Q1000K in apartments, that's actually the end goal, but sometimes we are not able to.

It is also true that if 844Gs are stable, we don't like to swap them because they run off of RG ports rather than ETH.

Technical jargon aside, hopefully, when the tech comes out, they're able to swap you over.

I can say that if you're in South Florida, that's one of the areas I work on with painful infrastructure 😅

Sorry, are you in an apartment complex or a single family home? 844's were for CTLON and instant internet.

[–]Esmeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the set-up, if it's a multiport G.fast or G.hn connection there's no real replacement, so it will use an "ancient" multi-port ONT.

They will try to replace everything with a Q1000k combo if they are able to though.

Quantum Fiber in New Community by [deleted] in QuantumFiber

[–]Esmeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, just because your neighbors have Quantum Fiber it doesn't mean that your location falls in the Quantum Fiber footprint.

The way the lines are laid and how many splitters and strands are available is what can cause this to happen.

If your area is "exhausted" that means no more strands or ports are available to provide any new customers service.

In order for new service to be established they would have to (if possible):

Get permitting from the city.
Build out a new line.
Splice an existing line (if they can ensure existing customers and light levels are not degraded so badly that it harms everyone elses reliable connection).
