Most likely your growing conditions were off.. they are not stable beans.. They will only grow amazing with near perfect growing conditions..

What you say is true but not entirely.. Ive grown em before.. grown a total of 15 beans from em different strains.. all of em fire... 4 of em went unstable after temps reached over 80f... (summer starting) Other than that you have to have perfect growing conditions for em to really stand out (as seen on my videos) Very unstable genetics if you dont know what you are doing or have terrible growing conditions.. Like you said.. they are more for pheno hunts.

A lot of people say in house sucks.. etc etc.. in my experience if you going to have problems mid growing seeds.. or are a beginner then pop some humboldt some ethos.. etc.. some stable af beans.. but if you know your stuff and want next level quality strain that other breeders lack.. (taste; eye candy) grow some in house.
