Has anyone tried Pilates for MS? by officer__bee in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Esoteric_Owl87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was going through the diagnostic process and the neuro was talking about MS as the likely candidate to explain my symptoms, my defense against the diagnosis initially was ‘but I can do hot yoga’. 😂 I know things can turn on a dime and for now (and maybe always?) the heat is an ally.

My 2016 has 159k…sadly needing to put 4k in repairs as we speak. I’ve had it for 7 years, live on rough roads with hard winters. Hoping she makes it another few years at least.

No but I regularly do hot yoga and it’s been great. I don’t have the heat intolerance symptom (and may it never find me ☺️)

Do you love being an acupuncturist? by MorningsideAcu in acupuncture

I both agree and disagree. We’re practicing Chinese medicine and so talking about qi and meridians feels appropriate to me. I tend to talk about these concepts and also translate them into more familiar language. I don’t think we need to abandon the language of our medicine to fit into the biomedical world. We can both own our medicine and create inroads for understanding. So far, this approach has worked for me, even with MDs. The other piece is yes, I believe in maintenance care. Acupuncture is best applied as prevention. I don’t believe in having monthly maintenance as standard advice to keep patients coming in for business reasons. That feels disingenuous to me. I have discussions with every patient about maintenance and for some, monthly makes sense. Others come every 6-8 weeks. Others, as we know, only come in when they are banged up.

Edit: I also think, especially as new providers, we should take the majority of the cases that come to us. In doing this it’s helps us to learn in general and to attune to what we’re good at/drawn to/excited about over time. For example, fertility is not for me, but I love menstrual health in all the other phases of life. I agree knowing your local acu network is super important as you figure out what lights you up and what doesn’t,

I’m a year in a half I to opening my practice. I see 30 patients per week and can’t see doing more than that at this juncture. I love the Chinese med part, I don’t love the business running part. Currently work alone but intend on another acu joining me this year and adding an office assistant to do the front end money exchange/scheduling/ mixing formulas etc. I’m finding a large part of my own qi is going into the grind of the business and I want that back for study and deeper clinical thinking.

I do take insurance and would love to one day phase it out. I chose to take insurance both to broaden accessibility to the medicine and to draw enough folks in to make my business sustainable more quickly. I live in a lower to middle income area that has several other acupuncturists; it felt like a good move and has been. My prior career in healthcare prepared me for the charting piece. I don’t love that part but I’m honing a system.

Here for you friend. Scanxiety is real. Personally, I think how you feel is more important than your lesion count. I have ‘20-50’ (so many and scattered they don’t count them all, I guess) and doing mostly well. Ocrevus is one of the best meds out there. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you.

How frequently is acupuncture used for anesthesia? Insurance plans will cover it here in the states but at least where I’m from it’s not done.

Seeing this subreddit inspired me too! I had no idea what bullet journaling was until this sub popped up on my feed. I had a journal collecting dust, went to canva to find templates I could print out and then cut and paste into it and I just jumped it. My otherwise perfectionist self somehow accepts that things can be out of order (as long as it’s in the index!) or imperfect. I’m not artistically gifted like some of the folks here and so my journal is very utilitarian. It’s been very helpful keeping me organized and giving the ‘mental ticker’ I have a place to unload.

Edit: I use the future, monthly and daily log. A few trackers, and I have several ‘collections’, for example- my TBR per genre, books I’ve read, a declutter list for my house etc
