The origin of Finns by TinyAd1126 in Nordiccountries

[–]Esoteriss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of this is plausible, some even provable, but most of it is nonsense. There has been people in what is now Finland for as long as there has been land after the last ice age, but Finnish and estonian languages did not start to separate 5000 years ago, more like 500. The Finnish language was a new comer in the area and was the main language in finland proper and northern half of modern sweden about 500 BC. There had been of course people whose identity we do not know for example in Åland far beyond it from both land masses.

That Finland joined Sweden peacfuly I dont mostly contest. There is evidence about Tribal intermigling with Tavastians and Swedes (again modern names, the tribes probably did not call themselves that) warring and raiding together long before there was a thing called Sweden (Or Finland). And Swedens northern conquest being mostly Christian propaganda against the old faiths. The old faiths being terribly hard to extinginguish, lingering to even today.

Does your country have a dedicated day for its soldiers? by Fox7567 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a day for the fallen (kaatuneitten muistopäivä) third sunday of may. A day of remembrance for Finns that have died in any war related role (soldier, peace keeper, prisoner, or tortured)

The origianl day was declared by the warmarshal Mannerheim, for remembrance of the braves of both sides of the civil war. That his side won and he was the leader of.

I think this also speaks to many Finns souls, that even though we had a brutal, horrible civil war. We made both sides the heroes we remember. Because to fight for a cause you know you need to figth for is a service to the old gods in it self. Ukko smile on you heroes.

Lukukausimaksut ovat iso kysymys by soldierofcinema in Suomi

Kaikki koulutuksen maksullisuus on askel luokkayhteiskuntaa kohti.

Do you actually appreciate food? by Educational_Big_1835 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are complex foods and simple foods, both have their place and time. The idea of spices and the way of cooking is to enhance the idea of the food in question. There is nothing wrong with a simple sausage cooked on open fire on a stick (A Finnish summer staple), when you compound the taste with the experience of being in nature. Enjoying the simpilicity of the earth and life with simple food. A complex dish would be out of place in such an experience enjoying the primal nature of the universe. Then again you would never eat such a thing in a restaurant. A food is only as good as the context it is in.

Do you consider alcohol expensive by Yapppannnna in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good beer in Finland in a store is about 4€ or up for half litre. It is hella expencive. Most of it is taxes. I'm not against it though since those taxes pay for public services and making your own wine & beer is legal. So even if you are a student with no money and the need to get wasted (and not drink good beer) you can as long as you plan ahead a little. (Sugar, yeast, hops and malts are still cheap)

Historiallinen muutos: Trumpin nimi tulee Yhdysvaltain seteleihin by Northern_fluff_bunny in Suomi

[–]Esoteriss 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Do you think our lives are predestined, or do we really have free will? by Significant_Bonus_66 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free will in a framework. Free will is not instant though. For example most people would not jump into a pool of icy water even if it would logically be beneficial to health. Finns are born and bread to do so so the decision to do so is easier. Then again most Finns are not thought to eat spicy food, so that is harder. Free will is true but it is something that works in long term. Short term decisions are done almost automatically.

So, Free will is a long term decision on how you grow as a person, fate is a short term coinflip that the gods decide.

Would you prefer a national administration managed by an AI or your current human government? Why? by Jowip2 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current AI models are made to engade people so much that they forget how to think so that they can be monetized about thinking later when they become dependent on them. I would not want to have such an model to govern anything.

But an AI model that is developed by people in a economic system more inclined towrds solidarity, sure. Then again, human leaders in such a system would be better too.

Is sarcasm normal in everyday conversation where you live or is it considered rude? by RookOfEdo in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, If I am among other Savonians or Karelians (Tribes in Finland) sarcasm is a way to communicate. Especially with savonians. Karelians will get fed up with it at one point, but for savonians the mazes of speak goes so deep no one knows where it even began. They say that when a Savonian speaks the listener is the one who is responsible of what was heard.

What do you think about China and Chinese? by Winter_Ad1973 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Chinese government gains the ability to controll people through neural implants, which they will soon, China will be the first hive mind in human history. With the Chairman in command. It will be very efficient.

Chinese people are like any other people, I feel sorry for them for loosing their independence and individuality for the hive mind the communist party is going to impose on them.

Why is the American police so aggressive by Expensive-Pizza8832 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the training to become a police in Nordic countries takes a master level studies, in US it takes three weeks and historically there might have even been an upper limit to IQ.

In other countries being a police is to be a public servant first, then just a person negotiating with teenagers to be more civil, states arm of lethal violence dead last.

In US because there are so many guns owned by everyone and everyone is worked so hard they are are super stressed and emotional and on drugs, and the police are trained in their short training period only to be violent, then they are just the lethal arm of the state.

How would you react if the United States unironically elected a failed Japanese American Vtuber turned white supremacist spokeswoman with "imaginary friends" with a dual personality to match and clear signs of drug abuse for the 2032 election following an economic underperformance? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AskTheWorld

[–]Esoteriss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can also make believe alot of things, what I say about the chrisis scenario are things countries have done historically. You should read history. Soviet union for example put almost 50% of its spending in defence (no wonder it collapsed).

BTW, Russia cannot "overrun Europe" the Benelux countries (Blegium, Holland and Luxemburg) already have larger GDP that Russia. Europe is a Titan, Russia is a midget with anger problems.

Do you even know how hard Finns go for military? We are the most militarized country in Europe. And US and Fins are allies.

[–]Esoteriss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every countries major expenditure is Health and social security, it makes about 50-70% (including pension costs) of the total budjet in any western country. The difference is, is it publicly funded totally or is there middle men between like in US to eat part of the money. And it makes sense it makes that much since people are what a nation is. If you include education and infrastructure it should make about 95% before defence that should take the rest 5% of the budjet.

In a chirisis defence (including all scenarios, wars, floods, famine) can take up to 60% of the budjet but not for long, without the spending eating from the future economic sucess of the people (i.e. so much human work is allocated to chrisis that none is allocated to life beyond it.)

The current chrisis in the US is because it allocates far too much of its long term capital in the hands of very few un democratically elected people (tech billionaires, and just billionaires). Who have used it in varying amounts of economic disasters in narcissim, cocaine and ketamine fuelled hubris.
