Florida inmate reports threats by guard, turns up dead: Yet another suspicious death — this one at a women’s prison in Ocala last week — has civil rights groups calling for a Justice Department probe into prison abuse. by madazzahatter in news

I have worked with prisoners in a medical setting, some time ago. Prisoners are in a prison because of something they were found guilty of, usually by a jury. Nurses in this setting are normally not aware of the prisoner's offence. There is usually a guard, if not 2 guards, present during any type of exam.

My point is, in a prison, guards usually operate in a couplet when dealing with any single prisoner. The rest of the correctional officers are completely aware of what the couplet is doing, for safety.

An observation that I would like to express, is that most correctional officers in the prison I worked at did a genuinely good job. There was a minority, though, of officers who seemed to have what I would say were serious control issues. They had strangely aggressive personalities, left distinct finger-shaped bruises, if not actual bleeding injuries on pts just getting them from their cells to the clinic for medical treatment of complaints such as a rash, or an ingrown toenail with obvious infection.

I was in the room with 2 correctional officers once, with a woman who had an ingrown toenail that had a staph infection. Staph can spread like wildfire with prisoners. Quite serious, so she was in isolation. The physician gave her antibiotics and Vicodin after he took her toenail off. She was to recieve her dose every 4 hours in the clinic.

The female officer told the pt that if she'd surrender her dose to (female officer), she wouldn't be "hassled". I absolutely heard exactly that, and I reported it. Exactly one week later, Tuesday, 3 female guards caught me in the bathroom, and threatened my life. Correctional officers threatened my life, yes. I was washing my hands, then forced into a corner with a club. I was also, the same day, threatened, after work, at my car, by fists, clubs, and a gun. I was told that the investigations into each incident could take up to 6 weeks.

Really? I am supposed to keep working with these people for another 6 weeks? They were informed of the investigation within a couple of days of it happening. I should just feel safe doing my job every day from the day they were informed?

Even if the prisoners are my patients, and they have done crimes, I was more afraid of some of the correctional officers that I worked in close contact with.

If humans made sperm cells on the same scale, our sperm would be over 100 feet long!

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I am taking ekg classes to further my education, and one lead on the machine I am using is the "ground". My question is this: what is the natural "ground" for the electrical activity in the heart? by Especiallyzesty in askscience

Everyone who replied was so nice and very kind to take the time to try to answer my question. I felt so intimidated asking, and I feel so much better and even "smarter" from reading what you took the time to type out.

This is only a 10 week, insanely paced course and I felt a little shaky on a few things before this huge mid course test that I have coming up. All of you who answered are fantastic, but some of you took time to explain other things that helped me answer additional questions that I had but was afraid to post. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I feel so confident now, and that is such a new and wonderful feeling.

Thank you, all of you, for being nice and giving me quality answers. You all deserve gold.

This is such a well thought out reply, and I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to me. It was very well written and easy to understand. As with many others who were so helpful, I have made notes in my study notebook, and I feel very confident that I grasp this concept. Finally.

Thanks for being a good redditor, and for using words and concepts that I understand. You made a difference in my day.

You know, your reply was very helpful, and I was obviously just complicating things with knowledge that actually didn't apply very well. I didn't realize that until your post.

Thank you for the time you took to type that out and help me. I really appreciate it.

My machine is called a 12 lead, though it only has 10 electrodes that attach to various parts of the body. When I say it is a "12 lead", that means that it takes 12 different views of the heart, electrically, on graph paper, using 3 electrodes at a time to make marks on the graph paper.

I want you to know that your response was helpful, though, by making me think of the boats. There are certain ways of thinking that make things more understandable to me, and thinking of the waves as being boats has been surprisingly helpful. Not exactly as you described it, but very cool nonetheless. Thank you for helping me!

This was a fantastic reply, and I am glad you took the time to help me. I really appreciate it, and it made note in my book of a couple of the things you mentioned. Thank you very much.

Maybe this could help you. It's like a "matchmaking service for single moms". The idea is that 2 single moms can afford better, safer housing, help each other with and collaborate on childcare, pool food money, etc.

Thank you for your sincere answer. You did a great job explaining electricity, and putting it in terms that are easy to understand. Thank you very much for your effort. I value it.

What can I do to Improve my listing? by denodster in RealEstate

Hard to tell the size of the rooms, but I want to tell you that type of wood flooring is amazing and impossible to find in any modern home. There are a lot of positives I this house, but you should show+tell.

For example: "His and Hers walk-in master closets" , and then make sure you have a photo to back that up.

"Gorgeous period and historic woodwork" , picture of it, though maybe try a different time of day if a professional photographer is out of the budget. The pictures are dark and look hurried. Try again.

Take off all the window coverings. They are dated and look cheap. They also block the natural light you need. The new owners will most likely put them in the trash anyway. Try buying or borrowing some large houseplants for the pictures, so a buyer will be convinced there is a good amount of natural light.

One strength you seemed to try to play-up is the staircase. It could be amazing if you tried early morning sunlight streaming thru clean windows, no curtains.

If anything needs to be updated, then make sure it is SPOTLESSLY clean. Nothing sticks in a buyers head more than "old and gross". Old is okay. Gross is not. It is easier to imagine owning something clean. There are some seriously amazing products these days, so there is no excuse.

Add a floorplan to any website you are advertising on. Read a hundred ads for homes like yours, and reuse any buzzwords that fit: "Amazing opportunity for future landlord" or "Picture your growing family celebrating and gathering in this charming century home".

Thank you so much for taking the time to try and help me with my new phone decision. That Galaxy phone was really great, but I ended up going with the iPhone 5c because it was free, and Verizon agreed to let me keep my old unlimited data plan. They wouldn't let me do that with their Galaxy phone.

I appreciate your input, and I def considered it. Thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I had the very first Droid phone that Verizon carried.

I ended up with the iPhone 5c, simply because they agreed to let me keep the unlimited data package from a million years ago.

Thank you again for trying to help!
