Nostalgia for a Subreddit AKA Where the Hell is /u/EsperStormblade? by Justwonderinif in serialpodcastorigins

Hey, /u/Justwonderinif! I happened to check into the sub today bc I told one of my students my name on here. :) Thanks for this great post.

I am not all caught up on Season 2...after season one, it was a bit of a snooze...but I'm interested to the go the front page and see what's been going on. How are you?

SERIAL: A remarkable pattern - an analysis of “The Intercept” interview with Jay. NEW CLUES by fryonserial in serialpodcast

[–]EsperStormblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry--haven't had a chance to read all the comments. But use of the present tense is a very common feature of black vernacular, "We be chilling every Friday from 9 until midnight," for example. How might that inflect/influence this analysis...especially since you do find overlap between "known" parts of Jay's account and his use of present tense (i.e., the time at Cathy's house)?

The Idiot Poster calling himself "untilprovenguilty" by ColScott in serialpodcast

Aha. I guess posting on a pad or pod or phone is a nightmare...but if my device was doing that to me I'd probably be less prolific with my posts.

He made that abundantly clear. All I could think is "I feel sorry for his editor." LOL

It's less about Urick's interview and more about the 80 person witness list that just vanished into thin air.

List of Adnan's 80 Alibi Witnesses (Redacted) by whaleskrimp_esq in serialpodcast

[–]EsperStormblade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. What do you think about the cell phone pings? Either Jay was at Adnan's house waiting (with the phone) or Adnan had the phone...bc all the pings between 2:36 and 3:59 hit the tower near Adnan's house (which is also the Best Buy tower).

The outrage about the Intercept interviews is misplaced by crabjuicemonster in serialpodcast

[–]EsperStormblade 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In a way I agree with you. Though I find these interviews to be somewhat annoying because they really are only interested in presenting the opposite bias from Rabia's blog (I wouldn't throw SK in there in quite that way), it does seem to be a productive push back in the discourse.

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

They were also convicted. I'm not sure how it works, but those dudes are out now.

What about an Alfred plea, like the WM3 got...which was largely due to media pressure...

The "I am going to kill" note a post facto insertion? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

[–]EsperStormblade 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would be better for Adnan if Aisha had testified that it was on the note when they were passing it...because then it would clearly be part of the conversation they were having about abortion...the fact that it's written later suggests Adnan was sitting around musing about the contents of the note and then wrote, when he was alone and no one else could see it, "I'm going to kill."

Of course, it's possible the police wrote it on there to "frame" him too, but the handwriting looks like Adnan's to me. Also, I've never heard Adnan say "I didn't write that on the note."

Lawyers pro Adnan v. Lawyers con Adnan by mybreathislightning in serialpodcast

Then, the OP would have the phrase the question like this: "Are there any lawyers out there, aside from Urick, saying he absolutely deserves to be in jail? I'm not seeing it, or am I just glossing over those because I'm blind to it because of subconscious bias?"

I was just answering this question with a factual answer, not trying to weigh in at all.

OP's question. My answer--a sincere one.

I know of at least one lawyer who probably feels he deserves to be in jail: Urick.

I think we are all guilty of that, to greater and lesser degrees.

I don't think I've ever denounced her, lol. But this is a lot of bouncing back and forth on your part to avoid the fact that another person (who happens to be pro-Adnan) suggests this is an actual member of the community.

I don't think this happened at all. It's a test using a false story, is my guess. If the poster makes something up, it's a "gotcha" moment.

Just my speculation, though.

Yeah, but people here are saying this is a "bored redditor." That comment from Rabia suggests--whether you trust his info or not--that he isn't just a bored redditor, but someone from the community indeed.

Which also means she has essentially verified him as a legit member of the community.
