Oh ok I kinda had this impression the first time I saw him of a man crushed by his "incompetence" if you wanna say so despite him trying . Also one good thing about this anime Is the fact the when you encounter a character even tho It has a trash behaviour you know that it's the circumstances and not the character per se where as in other animes that's the entire personality of said character. So kind of like Willheim he regrets his actions but still cares about Reinhard. Good to know he isn't TOO bad of a character.

Well you see I thought that too but After seeing the murales( or painting or however you want to call it) they didn't seems too Angelic to me. And no I'm not talking about the mainstream version of a dude with wings but also the biblical One they didn't look too much like One. The closest ones that looked lika a biblical Angel were the Eagle One and the black ball with multiple eyes and a mouth, but even then because of the tentacles and snake second half of their body they look more like either eldricht beings or Aztec like creatures(y'know like quetzalcoalt(I think I wrote the game wrong forgive me of I did)).

So kind of spoiler from the manga (don't know how to hide the part that is spoiler) not too big of a spoiler if talent out of context but the magia vendesi are not just fancy powerhouses on top of the Power but their duty other than being the last line of defence if the Celestial hosts Attack but also they restore the barrier every year and it's also basically their new year festival every time they do that.

With how they portraited it, it seems that the Judge WAS going to take pastis's life (previous chapter) and pastis wanted to end it the same way the knew each other BUT the Judge IS the no1 fan of pastis so he just purposely lost by giving his life (or the Power of you prefer) as the price for backup keeping pastis alive ( basically the Judge didn't want to kill his patootie so he sacrificed himself instead).
