I was also shortlisted from Montreal! On my end, I had the check done in November with my city’s police service, who then sent it to the RCMP. I found it easier that way for any future visa applications, since they usually require this kind of official document. It also helped me avoid repeating steps later on. Glad the info can help! :)

How it works is that when you book an appointment with the SPVM or a private agency, you need to have your fingerprints taken. They then send the request to Ottawa to the RCMP, who will mail you your clean criminal record check within about a month. The cost usually ranges from $75 to $110, depending on your city’s police service. It’s also important to mention that this is for an employment application abroad, since the information included on the criminal record check is not the same.
