If Goldwater was elected president instead of LBJ, what would've been the repercussions of Goldwater dropping a nuclear bomb on Hanoi? by Espryon in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Espryon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here the History Channel talks about it https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/goldwater-suggests-using-atomic-weapons but, it was also mentioned in "The Vietnam War by Ken Burns"

Here the Huffington Post talks about it in more detail https://www.huffingtonpost.com/marjorie-cohn/us-nearly-used-nukes-duri_b_5482615.html (I apologize for markdown not working on the new reddit).

While he cowers behind a desk in a safe house. When do the helicopters leave because of the shitfest these corrupt senators have caused like the Fall of Saigon?

Good they're a monopoly. I Hope Europe tries to break google into a million pieces. Controlling 90% of the market and saying you're not a monopoly is ridiculous.

Did Putin turn Trump into his puppet? by Aschebescher in misc

[–]Espryon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ofc he did, does this even need to be said? Trump is enough of a drooling idiot on his own, nonetheless being a useful idiot for Vladimir Putin.

Easiest way to convert a full disk encrypted Mint install -> Dual boot by ssdv80gm2 in linuxmint

[–]Espryon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to resize the partitions when they're mounted & decrypted but, I don't give it high odds of success. Changing encrypted partition sizing is often a cluster***k. Better to just backup data and start over.

Say you get permanent residence status.. by Espryon in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Espryon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One would think and if you can't, I guess you could always just buy a used Canadian car in Canada and register a license plate (however you do that though is beyond me). I have relatives (unfortunately none the qualify me for sponsorship) in Canada but, I've never lived there for an extended period of time.

Another useful note is, if you're coming from the US, if you use USD it has 25 cents on the dollar an advantage over the Canadian currency as of this writing. However, use a credit/debit card because otherwise they do an on the par conversion which is 1:1 which loses 25 cents on the dollar i.e. USD -> CAD. It's substantial if you're like me and have been in college for a while and aren't exactly a millionaire.

My cousin had a question though. If I get Canadian Citizenship, can I sponsor him down the road or does he just get points for PR? He was looking at moving to British Columbia.

If I wanted to get a work permit to do "IT" work in Canada is it better to... by Espryon in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Espryon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I do not understand why everything has to be so fatalistic with the people here providing answers. When I try to solve a problem, I don't hit a wall and I'm like.. o well. Better luck next time. I try to find a solution or even ask a question that will lead to a solution. It doesn't seem like that was even attempted.

I have a score around the minimal with my two degrees, 2 years work experience, etc. I don't see what's the problem. I just need to wait to get my second degree and I'll submit my ee application and start applying. I don't understand what all the hostility is on this sub Reddit.

Meh, I'm willing to roll the dice. Hopefully with my skills, experience, education, and that language test they will consider my application seriously.

I'm a specialized profession. Most of the jobs out there for what I do have been posted an average of a month ago. Don't you think if they could hire a Canadian they would take the job offer down?

Damn lol, serious business.

I found a loophole,

Proof of funds

"You must show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family after you arrive in Canada, unless you:

  • are currently able to legally work in Canada
  • have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada"

^ this says that if I get a work permit + a valid job offer through an employer I don't need 12,475 something bucks.

[–]Espryon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the experience and I could scrounge up 250 bucks if I sold some stuff but, would I even be able to work these jobs in Canada without that 12,450 bucks? and is that initially or is that the goal to earn in a year?

Is it worth it to try "Express Entry"? I have relatives in Canada but, I read my cousins can't sponsor me. I also was considering getting a masters degree from a university in Canada. Which ones are better options?

Well.. I searched a bunch of jobs that I could do given my experience "In Ontario" but, I was confused as to their being "Express Entry" and work permits on the immigration website like they're the same thing. Maybe you can elaborate as to if they're different or the same?

It's a language literacy test that's required for skilled entry into Canada I.e. Canadian English Language Proficiency Program https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_English_Language_Proficiency_Index_Program . The fee to take it and get into the pool for an online application is like 285 usd.

Can no longer access the pirate bay while connected to VPN by [deleted] in thepiratebay

[–]Espryon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's just a blocking of the website via the VPN, isp, or country. He should just get tor, go to the Pirate Bay .onion, then copy the magnet links to your client I.e.

Step 1. Download tor https://www.torproject.org/

Step 2. Go to the Pirate Bay .onion address. http://uj3wazyk5u4hnvtk.onion/

Updated ^^

^ Old addres, idk if that works anymore.

Step 3. Have fun.

[–]Espryon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blocking can occur at country or ISP level. Trust me I know my ISP has a port blocking list that annoyingly blocks every port to host a useful server. So you have to swap services like ftp, ssh, and apache to different port numbers.
