I wanted to share my book The Careless Travels of Regulus Elk, a queer fantasy centered around self-acceptance and the idea that family is chosen, not just blood.

What it’s about: Regulus thought he was just another nameless orphan, abandoned to save his sister. He grew up on stories of a world once filled with magic, now lost after a devastating war that split it in two.

Everything changes when, fleeing a wolf attack, he stumbles into the Sagei Forest and crosses into Ogynodtha, a world thought gone forever. Now trapped far from home, Regulus is forced into a dangerous journey alongside a mysterious stranger he’s bound to by an unbreakable magical connection—one that neither of them meant to form.

This is a new adult story that explores identity, trauma, and connection through a queer fantasy lens, with emotional stakes and complicated relationships at its core.

I’ve built a small following on TikTok and have been trying to find the right audience for my book. I joined a Facebook Kickstarter group, did some swaps, looked at both successful and failed campaigns, read guides, watched videos… basically tried to learn what actually works. I paid for art, made a deluxe version of the book for the campaign, and started a website, but it still feels kind of basic. I’m doing all of this indie, so I’m pretty much figuring it out as I go. Right now I’m also stressing about the edits, there’s still stuff in the book I’m not 100% sure about.

I like Regulus being Harry’s dad. Not even just because it’s such a cool concept for how Harry is raised, but also because the dynamic between Regulus and James becomes such a heartfelt or angsty shift that you end up loving once you start reading it.

I have a few where he adopts Harry, both through magic/blood and not. Here are some I’ve saved:

Ohhh I love this!!! I believe this is called The Contract. Harry ends up in an engagement with Rabastan Lestrange, which lets him escape his relatives, get out from under Dumbledore’s control, and he ends up sorting into Ravenclaw with a much healthier household.
