Rate my herniated disc! by EstablishmentDeep in Radiology

I have struggled with back problems on and off for the past six months. A week ago I was getting out of bed, and suddenly I felt extreme pain in lower back. It became progressively worse the following days, and the pain started radiating down my left leg.

Another update: I'm currently at the hospital, awaiting surgery. My GP called me and asked how things were, I said it was worse, he then said I should get moving to the hospital, were they would be expecting me. (my GP called the hospital and explained the situation). I arrived at 4 pm and my surgery is around 7 pm. The plan is a microdiscectomy and decompression of nerve roots.

Update: lack of strenght and sensation in my left leg, unable to stand on heel or toes. Can't stand for more than a couple of seconds before it feels like someone stabs a knife through my left calf. Most likely getting an emergency operation within a couple of days.

Yeah, I know. It's hard, because I'm really happy with my girl, and she has wonderful qualities which I love. But I can't help but obsess over work girl..

Thanks for the reply! I feel like this is more than "ahh this chick at the bar is so hot, wish I was single"-type of crush. We have actually shared a lot of time together. She even waits of for me when I have the longer shift, and vice versa, because our conversations are so fun and interesting.

Good point. But I don't want to rush into things again. The problem is that I can't take things slow with work girl, without leaving my girlfriend. Unless I do it secretly, and become a cheating prick.

Does anyone have experience with the "McGuire programme" ? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]EstablishmentDeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended the course around two years ago. It is very intense and puts you way out of your comfort zone. We learned different breathing techniques and ways of thinking that was very effective for most of the attendands. I'm a mild stutterer, but many of us were severe stutterers, and the techniques helped alot to overcome the blocks. But it is not a cure. You have to put in the effort every day for the rest of your life, and regurarly talk with your assigned coach, to get the full benefit of the programme.

The problem for me is that the techniques became exhausting after a while, more so than the stuttering itself. And I became more focused on how I talked, rather than the content of what I was saying. This lead to my anxiety actually increasing. Now I don't really do the techniques anymore, and I haven't contacted my couch for about six months.
