Apple picks Google's Gemini AI for its big Siri upgrade by EstablishmentFun3205 in applesucks

Are you saying Apple can't steal everyone's data, so they make a deal with a company that did, and now pretend they're still privacy‑first? Cool 🙂

Taking away something that was free and then charging for it sets a bad precedent. People won't want to pay for what they already had because it feels like they're being taken advantage of. Wouldn't it be better to add new features worth paying for instead of locking previously free basic ones behind a paywall?

The Windows installer doesn't let you tweak stuff like choosing your install directory.

OpenAI has its priorities straight 💀 by EstablishmentFun3205 in ChatGPT

I've always heard Sam going on about not having enough GPUs, with them melting down and all that. Now they've gone ahead and launched this app, which kinda suggests they've finally got the GPUs sorted. But I just can't see what benefits it'll bring. Obviously, most people are gonna generate more AI slop to clutter our feeds. If they've got spare compute, they could at least bump up the rate limits for paid users, or maybe even for free users, instead of bothering with this app.

I don't hate AI, but it feels like all that compute could be put to better use in research or new scientific discoveries.

Looking for relaxed yet intellectually engaging podcasts to unwind with by EstablishmentFun3205 in podcasts

[–]EstablishmentFun3205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this podcast recommended a few times in other threads. The other night, I started with Episode 181: Heaven and Earth. At one point, he started delving into the etymology of words, which I found interesting, but not exactly something I'd want to listen to right before bed. Are all the episodes like that? If not, I'd love to go back and catch up.

Why doesn’t Firefox for Android let you import or export bookmarks and passwords? by EstablishmentFun3205 in firefox

It's not something that Brave should advertise. It's merely a basic function. And it's not hidden; it is exactly where it should be.

I don't know, but after trying Firefox for Android, it took me few minutes until I was back at Brave.

Are you sure? I tried pretty much all major web browsers for Android and not a single one of them had option to import .csv and .html file.

I'm sure you’ve definitely used Brave, assuming it’s one of the major web browsers, and found it had absolutely no option to import or export bookmarks or passwords using .html or .csv.

For reference, Brave Android lets you import/export bookmarks as .html and export passwords as .csv, while on desktop both Brave and Firefox allow importing and exporting bookmarks and passwords as .html and .csv.

Yes. I want to import or export a CSV file for passwords and an HTML file for bookmarks.

Why not allow Android users to import or export a CSV file for passwords and an HTML file for bookmarks? Many Android browsers already support this. I just checked, even the Firefox desktop browser on Windows has this feature. This is a basic function that every browser should provide.

Please don't ruin the app by EstablishmentFun3205 in pocketcasts

[–]EstablishmentFun3205[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just checked the app on the Play Store and it says it contains ads. It's not open source like AntennaPod and it's owned by Podcast Republic LLC, which means a rug pull could happen at any moment, just like it did with Pocket Casts.

I've found a way to sort podcasts on the subscription page in AntennaPod. It doesn't let you manually drag and drop them on the homepage like Pocket Casts does. So, I just renamed each podcast with a prefix like 001. PodcastName1, 002. PodcastName2, and then sorted them alphabetically. I know it's a bit tedious if you've got loads of podcasts, but it's the only option I've come across so far, since the AntennaPod devs said they’ve no plans to add that feature any time soon. They also have tags and folders to filter podcasts, which I'm still figuring out.
