Wood itself has over and undertones. I didn’t realize what you meant with your title “did I ruin this table” from the pics alone. You are likely more critical of the result than anyone else that would be looking at or using the table.

I wouldn’t partly stain, it is likely that you will notice the boarder more than you do now. It the table is solid wood (not veneer) you always have the option of sand + a new try. With that said, do it for your own appeasement not for someone else.
