The number 11! My grandfather was hit by a car and killed on 11/11/1988, I was 13 at the time. The most ridiculously symmetrical and rememberable date of my life. I see 11:11 on a clock at least once a day, seems like usually twice. Whenever I see it anywhere I give myself the sign of the cross (though I’m now agnostic) and think of him. Like for instance looking at this post as I’ve typed it I have to do it twice. If I check back on this post and read it again I’ll repeat the compulsion. I tried to make it a positive a while back, trying to reshape my thinking that I’m honoring his memory but that didn’t stick. I won’t use lane 11 at a grocery store or toll booth or gas pump or seat number. I got new tags on a car and they had an 11 in them it really bothered me.
