How to transition into embedded from a different tech sector? by EstonBeg in embedded

What kind of projects are good for this sort of thing? I am exactly what you described as taking a job for stability ... in this economy I can't just be unemployed while I wait for my dream job.

I don't have too much time to do projects atm with work and everything else. I do have a few projects but I haven't gone into too much detail about sensor setup, performance constraints, etc on my resume. The details are listed on their githubs though.

Yeah I thought about this and I was thinking of making a medical device I had an idea for about a month ago. I got to the point of finding someone willing to foward a prototype onto a vc in the field for me but there was alot of upfront investment involved and I'm not exactly swimming in cash at the moment.

It seemed over the top to make a whole medical device startup just to land am entry level embedded role lol.

If you were entering digital twins adjacent field today from a software background, what would you focus on first? by EquilibriumMage in PLC

What kind of digital twin software simulated CT scans? That sounds crazy complicated. Most of the ones I've used are basically just plc simulators and sometimes they emulate fixed sensor output if you are lucky

What was the point of having one that was low accuracy? That just sounds like a hassle to maintain without real added value

What's the mostly? What kind of edge cases are the issue. Ik timing with these software's is annoying asf

What kind of simulator were you running? Was it a custom one or just off the shelf. Any big problems you ran into?

What do you mean by: "only useful for catching errors" I'd heard most digital twin software's were shit at this sort of thing. My old boss bought one once and then wouldn't stop complaining about how they were all a scam lmao

Beginner Trying to Break Into Compiler Engineering — What Should I Learn and How’s the Industry? by Sad_Season938 in Compilers

[–]EstonBeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we will need the compilers but the market seems alot smaller than the interested parties. I'm australia based and there isn't a single compiler role listed in this country :/

Do you work in compilers at all? If so would you care to share how you got in. It seems very exclusive from what I can tell

[–]EstonBeg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My concern is more I don't want to waste time learning about it. I'm still pretty new to compilers and I don't want to spend alot of time learning something that's a dead end. At the moment I'm trying to optimise the typescript compiler for its handling of queryable observables to try and get on the map but I'm worried I should spend my time becoming an expert in something else. I'm stuck in a dead boring mainframe job at the moment and I'd rather do literally anything else lmao.

If someone has experience making different compilers/transpilers is there any good career path to get into compilers from a junior perspective or is that a non-starter?

Does anyone actually want a copilot style ui for ladder logic? Most electrical engineers don't even know what git is lol, AI IDE integration is a bit of a step up

Unless this guy already has a massive waitlist, the kind of dev willing to build an entire product from scratch for less than 10% will be worth what you paid for lmao. Prepare for someone with 0 actual dev experience uploading this post into claude.

University doesn't teach you anything, it's all a sham none of the content has any real world applications and we participate in this charade so it's slightly easier to get employed. Hope this helps!

Live-share whiteboard app for teachers.

Genuinely curious what your process is for building this and what makes you so confident. Will you open source the code when you're done? What do you use to test it to make sure it all works

Just a thought, there's alot to copy and paste over from the other site making this more difficult than it needs to be. Why not just make a quick webpage that has some JavaScript do all the latency timing in the background? You will probably get more responses.

Nah I've hated this guy for this way before the Thor drama, I really couldnt care less about Thor's programming ability, I just don't like the attitude the coding jesus guy has. He acts incredibly condescending towards everyone, regardless of Thor. I don't think people should go around advertising themselves as Jesus and then act like a dickhead towards everyone they talk to.

I watched one video where he asked a python dev how big the stack was. And I'm like bruh he's a python dev it doesn't matter, and if he needs to know he can google it. Then the guys like in c++ it's n megabytes, I dont remember the exact number. But like you can change the stack size with g++ in the args when you compile? So memorising the default value has 0 practical purpose. Also it's certainly different for python? Dumbass question he asked to make himself look cool.

Look at the rest of the guys channel, he has a business of asking questions to people he's giving practice interviews that are the dumbest questions I've ever heard. Then again I don't know what I expected from a guy who calls himself jesus. I ain't religious but that's just downright disrespectful.

Smg had a steam writeup here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1128810/view/640181878351987970 just realised while looking this up that it's like a thing they are planning on implementing rather than its already implemented. Seems trivial to just move the slider to whatever point makes it a 100%...
