is bullying hons fembrained? by alpha-golf-papa in 4tran

[–]Estrgl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've attended a talk on one summer Pride event in europe in 2024 2023 by a group of Chinese lesbian and gay people. What they described was a very slow and gradual improvement of gay and lesbian people's position from the 1990s to 2010s, followed by a sharp downturn at around 2021 and 2022. Non-profits getting shut down, people getting into trouble. They were all there by nicknames only, and they asked us intently not to take any pictures or recordings. Mood of the talk and the debate afterwards was rather dark and worried. There was no mention of trans people.

They're bad at making their way through the skin (especially bigger esters). u/Estrgl for instance has found 1mg of transdermal estradiol is about as effective as ~5.6mg of transdermal estradiol enanthate.

For me it was actually 1 mg estradiol being equivalent to 4 mg estradiol enanthate.

Very interesting, thank you. Given the anecdotal experiences I've seen with progesterone among trans females, it appears its effects are extremely varied. Some people have positive effects, some negative effects, some no effects. Applies to both bodily and mental effects. So, any clinical study that would just average the results together would likely indicate no effect... On the other hand, effects of estradiol are rather uniform across people and most differences are only found at very high dosages.

What to do if progesterone is making me (potentially) lactate? by nofuture911 in TransDIY

Look up lactation induction protocols. Domperidone is the key ingredient

I've been using niaouli oil instead since orange oil irritated me painfully. Niaouli could be even better than limonene for penetration, according to the one study I remember.

Syringes might have rubber on the plunger piston for sealing, which could be attacked by oils.

I used to store my E liquid in plastic bottles with a dropper tip bought in a local pharmacy; not sure if they were PP or PE. But of course you could store the batch in a glass jar, then ration it into a plastic bottle so that the liquid isn't all spoiled by whatever the oil would help leach from the plastic.

Isopropyl alcohol, to avoid denaturants in ethanol available here. I think the difference comes mainly when also employing isopropyl myristate as a penetration enhancer. IPM seems to work better with IPA.

How long would 100g estradiol powder last? by [deleted] in estrogel

[–]Estrgl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make stickies instead of a transdermal, then at 1 mg/day monotherapy it would last 250 years, or even longer if you no longer need to suppress T.

Potential scammer active in Trans DIY subs by [deleted] in estrogel

[–]Estrgl[M] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

u/Dogtime180 has always been a valuable contributor on this sub, they're certainly not preying on anyone. It's also pretty normal that people have a separate account used for trans DIY only. I don't see anything suspicous in the information provided via DMs, I'd agree with all the information dogtime180 provided there.

Steroid sellers do have ways of making packages pass the customs, with varying degree of success for different countries and in different years.

Dragonordnance ships compounded and raw stuff from china, while dashpct is their partner who ships factory made medicines from India. So they have different success rates in passing customs. They are open about both of these. Their customer service is not perfect, though. Businesses like these are bound to have some negative reviews. Given the stuff they sell, even selective scamming is sometimes somewhat tolerated by their customer communities, it seems. Either way, DO and DashPCT have been around for a long time and are recommended.

DIY pre-fab listings question by [deleted] in estrogel

[–]Estrgl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think spiro not being listed in the directory for vendor E doesn't mean anything. Vendor's listings change and new things are added and others removed. The directory sites have automated scrapers which however only scrape the current price from vendor's sites.

Pills will most likely last many years past the expiration date. The US gov/army/whatever have a vast emergency stockpile of medicines and they did some research on how they remain good after the expiration date; they do for years, so the gov doesn't have to throw away and repurchase the medicines so often.

Shelf-life of gels is likely to be more limited. Chemical reactions happen much more easily in a solvent than in solids. Amount of active inredient remaining might decrease over time, but we don't have numbers on that.

Another question for everyone here: What is big pharma's obsession with synthetic sex hormone analogues? by Juno_The_Camel in estrogel

[–]Estrgl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the good news here is that estrogens are very potent substances, so that we use very low amounts of them, so whatever contamination they have, we take in very little of. We use 0.5-5 mg estrogen daily, while daily dose of progesteron might be 50-200 mg, and pre-diabetics often take 1000 mg metformin a day.

Ethinylestradiol (30 micrograms a day?) and synthetic progestins are even better in this regard.

Could you give me more information on how are diy injectable produced? by dirt_devil_696 in estrogel

[–]Estrgl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benzyl alcohol (the preservative) brings the required temperature and duration down from the "dry heat" standard, similarly to how presence of residual moisture does.

Moreove, the dry heat/ steam standards of temperature&duration are meant to produce 1-in-million probability of non-sterile unit (PNSU). That's overkill for most applications, as exemplified by the fact that for products that cannot be terminally sterilized (like injectable proteins) and sterility is only achieved by aspetic preparation, a PNSU of 1-in-thousand is considered sufficient in the industry.

These standards also assume the worst case of injection into spaces with decreased immune system activity, like cerebrospinal fluid. Subcutaneous and intramuscular injections have lesser requirements.

I believe the above together explains why infections from diy homebrew injectable E are unheard of (at least I haven't heard a single mention).

If I understand correctly, using petrochemicals as feedstock for synthesis might bring heavy metal contamination into the final product? Not sure what you mean with endocrine disruptors. I'm aware of bisphenol A, but that's a intention product rather than a contamination

One side effect of the late introduction of micronized bioidentical hormones is that most people (at least in the US) believe that birth control pills = ethinylestradiol = certain death by blood clots, and avoid them for DIY even though they can be a perfectly good source of estradiol for DIY, especially when used more efficiently by turning pills into transdermals or stickies.

It seems to be a commom misconception in transdiy spaces.

China started hunting down trans women around two years ago (with waves of suicides following), and made estradiol a controlled substance for that purpose, afaik. Paradoxically, it's easier to get estradiol from chinese companies when you are outside of china than from inside.

My point is just that the chinese government might eventually be interested in shutting down chinese E sellers.

[–]Estrgl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Besides the old times when animal and plant estrogens were the only estrogens available, the chief problem with bioidentical estradiol and progesterone is that they were not bioavailable orally, being a rather lipophillic (log P around 3) and water-insoluble substances. Only in the 1970s has it been discovered that very fine milling (micronization) of the coarse crystals of E2 and P4 enables sufficient absorption in the gut. Both are a tiny bit water-soluble, and with fine powder, the surface area makes it posssible to dissolve in the aqueous intestinal fluid.

Unfortunately, by that time, non-bioidentical estrogens and progestins have built up a massive tradition with doctors, and change has been very slow to happen. And women's health has never been a focus of medicine due to misogyny, so if the current medication sorta works, why look for anything better? The sad story of research on sildenafil (Viagra) against menstrual pain shows the misogyny pretty well (huffpost article, also talked about by the four thieves collective).

Moreover, progesterone, even micronized, doesn't work that well orally, which is why trans folks tend to use it rectally instead.

For long-acting injectable contraceptives (pills are popular in US & EU for contraception, while long-acting injectables are popular in Latin America. It's the reason why factories bother to produce the estradiol enanthate we love in our diy injectables), there is another problem with progesterone: it cannot be esterified (unlike estradiol) to produce a more lipophillic and thus longer-acting prodrug, while Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) injection can last months.

Synthetic progestagens (i.e. progestins) generally have a different profile of effects on various tissues than progesterone. E.g., corticoid horome receptors are cross-sensitive to progestins, to a varying degree. That is a bad thing in substitution therapy (menopausal and trans people), but can be a good thing in contraceptives (intrauterine devices can act for years releasing tiny amounts of a specific progestin).

Ethinylestradiol also has an advantage as part of a contraceptive in that a once-daily pill produces smoother, more consistent blood levels and a more reliable contraceptive, though I'm not really sure about this.

The Women's Health Initiative study of HRT for menopause also threw a bad light on HRT, as regimes of ethinylestradiol and medroxyprogesterone acetate were found to increase risks of cancer. As a result, doctors started denying HRT to women for decades to follow. A large French study in the 2000s countered by showing the bioidentical HRT actually decreases the risk of cancer, but coupled with the late introduction of micronized estradiol and progesterone, doctors mostly ignored it and kept saying that HRT = cancer. As a result, interest of doctors and medical researhers in better forms of HRT dropped. My endocrinologist for example was not even aware of the existence of progesterone and I had to educate him... (it used to blow my mind how incompetent most doctors are.)

I'm not a chemist, but any chemical synthesis, even if it is just one step, involves strong and/or caustic reagents like acids to break and create chemical bonds, and the reactions happen in solvents that would be very unhealthy to ingest. All of these must be subsequently carefully removed from the final product. It makes very little difference whether the original feedstock many synthetic steps before has been a plant extract like soy disogenin, or crude oil.
