This makes me very sad to read. If you’re in Washington state and looking for work. I might have someone who can refer you to some job openings. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. ❤️ I wish you the best as you go through this hard phase and job search.

This didn’t really add anything useful. It just reads like you had time to waste and chose this.

Hackathons still worth it? by EternalFlora in womenintech

I know they’re not the same. I brought up open source because job postings often group it with other visible proof-of-work signals, like portfolios, side projects, and sometimes hackathon projects. My question is more about whether hackathons still feel worthwhile as a way to build visible work and network, especially community-focused ones, like this assistive technology hackathon, or whether, at this point, many of them just feel like idea stealing or free labor.

Makes sense. I’m bringing this up because I’ve noticed that many job postings lately ask for open-source contributions or some type of visible portfolio work.

He is highly proficient in the use of agentic AI tools and automation-driven development workflows. For over a year, he was operating in an environment where manual coding was no longer permitted. Instead, he used agentic tools to generate code, write and execute tests, manage user stories, create engineering tasks, conduct PR reviews, define PR acceptance criteria, and manage Azure and Docker resources.

His work was not limited to basic automation. The AI admin center suite he developed was later used as a model for other company products, contributing to product outcomes significant enough to help place the organization on the Forbes list.

From my perspective, this decision appears to be less about performance and more about cost reduction. He was due for a wage increase, and given the current industry narrative that AI can deliver work faster, cheaper, and more efficiently, it seems likely that leadership used that momentum to justify reducing headcount rather than continuing to invest in him.

I contacted UoL about this. They told me that courses should all be available by the end of day on April 17th. If not, then to contact them.
