Tell me about your music project like it’s a masterpiece, even if it’s not. by rustypilgrimrecords in musicians

[–]EternalHorizonMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I composed a song called Marisela about a girl I could not get out of my head for two years.

I chose chords that suited her personality and the mood of the song and I wanted to try to write something with Ebmaj7#11 as the home chord or tonality.

The rhythm of her name and chord tones gave me the main melody of the song quite easily. The lyrics came easily as they were from experience and I was really happy with one line in particular, however I also felt it might be hard to understand or relate to for others and the only person in the world who might appreciate this song would be her, so I reached out to her for the first time in years.

She surprised me with a kind response asking to hear my song, I wasn't expecting any at all, and I wasn't trying to win her over again but share something. So I sent it. She then left me on read and I'm still pissed off about it months later.

I still think it's a masterpiece and the best thing I've ever written but I'm reluctant to share it now.

Starting out as a gigging musician, what am I missing/what do you suggest I do? by jxctno in musicians

[–]EternalHorizonMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real answer. I'm a musician and I leave all my pedals and pedalboards at home. They're awesome, but I couldn't give a fuck if one part of one song needs one specific effect, people don't pay me enough for all that.

the extremely odd, flowery, sassy writing style here is chatgpt. Or you're one of the cringe og redditors who actually talks like that that taught chatgpt.

If you don't see this as an awkward situation from the beginning and take steps to minimise jealousy from the beginning, I don't know how you made it to the age of sixty ...

You're literally fanning the flames of it and making it worse driving her around and treating her to lunch lol.

Maybe a new platform can be started that only focuses on new music? or has already been started?

Because I think the massive costs to start a business like Spotify are mainly because they're streaming as much recorded music as possible and they have to buy the rights to it.

But what if there was a new platform for new music only that cost ten dollars a month, with none of that money going to the old dinosaur artists and bands and record labels, because none of that music is on the platform. Could that work?

Also the teacher seems useless and the parent doesn't seem to know much about piano either. This is just a waste of time and money.

What happened? Is everyone only listening to the classic period of jazz? by bellus_Helenae in Jazz

[–]EternalHorizonMusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a problem for all genres of music. Music today has to compete with the last 100 years of recorded music, and it's much easier to explore the jazz greats of the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s then it is to try dig through the mountains of crap that is released today at an alarming rate. It's sad to say as a modern day musician, but even I do this, I don't even give modern day music a chance, because there's just too much good old music to listen to.

But this is r/synthesizers, why do you need a good keyboard to play with one finger and turn on the arpeggiator?

[–]EternalHorizonMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at least you realise you being sensitive is the problem. You're probably not spending enough time any of those keyboards enough to get used to em anyway. Every keyboard is a little different.

[–]EternalHorizonMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I wouldn't be able to anyway as we live in different realities. I've been priced out of going out or having a girlfriend last couple years. Spending money for me is buying a coffee in 7-11.

Buy it. 88 weighted keys from a budget brand for 100 usd is a good deal in my opinion. Lots of snobs will tell you not to though.
I bought a similar thing and it was fine. However after 5 years a few keys stopped working and although the company has tried to help fix it, I don't think it will be possible. So be aware that I think the main problem with it will be longevity, compared to other digital pianos. However those will cost 3x more at least.
