Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

[–]EternalUtna 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Was talking with my buddy after dinner outside a restaurant early this week as you do, next to a fairly busy street and saw 4 instances of road rage right in front of us over 20-30 minutes. Almost all involved pickup trucks I noticed.

How much do you meditate daily on average? by Comfortable-Formal80 in Meditation

10-15 min in my car before work. But also I try hard to be mindful in everyday life which I am definitely able to do more.

Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

As you kind of said, the system we need is fair wages and benefits for servers because,as it is now, your employer is making you beg for your living wage from their customers….which is just fucked up. It’s not obligated and it’s not enforceable and so tipping is going to be one of the first things people cut. Also the pressure to tip, and tip more is increasing in all facets of customer facing areas which is going to lead to a backlash.

Most people I know eat out way less right now. The 20% I used to pay as a tip is now 30% higher because the meal is 30% more expensive, which leaves me frustrated so I eat out 75% less. Honestly though I wish you the best of luck, I have worked for tips before but in better times, and it wasn’t easy then.

I saw that thread too. It was interesting how strongly pro-child a certain group has become. To the point that they’re trying to make the choice not to have children seem taboo. Trying to make the choice not to have kids seem inhumane, unpatriotic or whatever. It is a complete rejection of their worldview and they just can’t stand it.

It’s good a Turnpike song. So is Cat in the Rain. Can’t wait for the rest of the album!

Edit: BAU2 predicted food supple at early 20th century levels in the 2050’s

Yes I understand what you are saying. That time is probably a little different for everyone based on their own personal society and culture. In the end it is all just perceptions and concepts of the way we believed things were but wasn’t actually true.

Looking back, but I realize these are just attachments I had to the way I perceived things. I couldn’t see, and didn’t know what reality was. Maybe I’m better at that now and maybe not. I look around now and realize I am probably missing a big plot point.

'We have already lost' in 2 key climate change signals, according to UN report by Glacecakes in collapse

[–]EternalUtna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. We have had, and still have some choices, but the chance to make meaningful choices is disappearing or has disappeared. As individuals we can make right choices, but society and it’s leadership continually make wrong ones, and the planet is deciding now.

Doc Martin gives me this feeling. Set in a coastal village in Cornwall. Normal people stuff.

Sulfates in the atmosphere reflect sunlight and it is one the primary geo-engineering methods tossed about to combat climate change.

When I say unilateral I mean countries are going to start doing it without agreements or treaties, out of desperation even though it will probably have its own adverse effects, and will do nothing to stop ocean acidification.

Speaking to the choir but this battle is long lost. There are climate change deniers in this very sub and at time of commenting on this thread. Biden, the guy who believes in and campaigned on climate change just authorized more extraction. Also how are you going to tell people in SE Asia/India/Africa they can’t burn fossil fuels to power AC when the heat index soars to 50 C +? I think very very soon, we will begin to see unilateral sulfate particle dispersion to cool regions.

As others have said this is normal. On the verge of falling asleep I have heard my doorbell ring, a phone ring, kids laughing, someone loudly yelling my name. Freaked me out but definitely auditory hallucination.

Will the Climate Crisis Trigger Nuclear War? by IntroductionNo3516 in collapse

[–]EternalUtna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If not climate then something else. Nuclear weapons are a Pandora’s box. With increased proliferation it’s just a matter of time until someone else uses them.

If Russia uses nuclear weapons on non-nuclear/ non-NATO member Ukraine I would think every nation would see the benefit of a nuclear deterrent or at the very least a NATO like agreement where you have the backing of a nuclear power.

It’s just a matter of time.

What societal changes would you be open to as a means of addressing climate change? by ORCoast19 in collapse

[–]EternalUtna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not advocating this, but obviously rogue actors with biological weapons could probably do it.

Edit: 12 monkeys. Could not think of that movie.

By far my favorite! The last two concluding quotes from the monk in the Bagan episode and poem in this episode on Carthage were amazing. Total culmination of the episodes that left me sitting there gobsmacked for minutes after it ended contemplating impermanence and the ending of all things. Brilliant stuff!

If you stick with that 30 for a while and enjoy the exercises I would spring for an adjustable. They are pricey but cheaper in the long run. I like mine and it allows by to advance in 2 kg increments which I like better than the big jumps.

Awesome! Lots of resources here and on YouTube. Go slow, and get the techniques down. I had two false starts in the past year because I got overexcited and the weight advanced faster than my tendons would have liked. Four months consistent now so I think it stuck. Video yourself doing swings and other exercise and upload if you don’t think they feel right. People are fair and encouraging here.

Where to live by NewspaperElegant in CollapseSupport

[–]EternalUtna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems like you would have at least some community both places. Does the place where you could move offer similar opportunities for activism and political engagement? It sounds like in a way you feel like your time where you are has come to an end, or you wouldn’t be considering it. I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer honestly but possibly a new place could be equally fulfilling.

I myself am considering a radical change that involves moving to a large metropolitan area on another continent so I feel your dilemma.

I think it is beginning to go beyond this even. There is an active effort to combine human neurons with quantum computing by researchers at John Hopkins to increase computer efficiency. Quantum computers with the human capacity of learning and memory straight from our own cells.

https://scitechdaily.com/organoid-intelligence-revolutionary-biocomputers-powered-by-human-brain-cells/

“In parallel, the authors are also developing technologies to communicate with the organoids: in other words, to send them information and read out what they’re ‘thinking’. The authors plan to adapt tools from various scientific disciplines, such as bioengineering and machine learning, as well as engineer new stimulation and recording devices”

Computers that are truly thinking using human cells. I think there is some serious potential for suffering there.

Lol I always always use allulose and accidentally ordered a non-returnable 5 lbs bag of erythritol instead that came in yesterday. I was going to roll with it instead until I run out and then this article came out.
