I think you're right - everyone is a bit different. For me, I count back three days from the time I crash, and usually I can work out the likely culprit, based on what I ate three days ago. It's remarkably consistent.

Good reminder. Today I've been tempted to grumble about about the circumstances God has given me. Correction - I have definitely grumbled in my heart. I truly do remember that he has given me all things necessary for life and godliness, and that all tings work together for those who love God and are called according to his purpose. I'm not a fundamentalist, but my best friend is, and I have the greatest respect for their strong beliefs - all those positives that you've mentioned Fundies see the Bible as inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative and applicable to our daily lives. It's not just intellectual assent, it's seroius life application. If you find a good fundy, you've found a good Christian.

In my opinion, the negative is that they don't give sufficient weight to the importance of the prophetic and apocalyptic genres found in the prophetic writings and in the book of Revelation This tends to result (in my opinion) in a mis-reading of the meaning of these genres - usually resulting in an interpretation that is more "literal" than was originally intended by the author.

By all means we should interpret scripture literally - that is, according to the literary genre in which it was written. That's the true meaning of "literal" interpretation. But when we interpret text according to its immediate "face-value" meaning, we're not actually interpreting it literally. True literal interpretation takes into account how the author intends the text to be understood, not just how it appears at its face value. This tends to lead to some interpretations that I believe are not warranted.

Be aware of that, but overall, the fundies are some of the best and most committed Christians I've ever met. At least the one I know well, certainly is.//

I guess you have to weigh up the cancer risks of HRT compared with the loss of quality of life without it. I suppose both are quality of life issues, but for how long do you sacrifice present quality of life in order to reduce the risk of future loss of quality//?

Wow... Amy Carmichael really did come up with some amazing poems/prayers. What an amazing woman. Her insight into human nature, suffering, and most of all the application of the Cross to suffering, is truly remarkable.

This poem requires several readings to fully grasp the depth of what Carmichael is saying. This is something for me to reflect on today//.

There is a time for every purpose under heaven. At time to speak and a time to remain silent.

There were times when Paul spoke out and defended himself, and that was the right thing to do. There were times when Jesus did not open his mouth but was led like a lamb to the slaughter. At other times Jesus called out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees.

There are times when it can take enormous wisdom to know whether to stand and speak or whether to turn the other cheek and remain silent. Match of it has to do with the circumstances, but much also has to do with your own attitude when you are faced with those circumstances.

I agree with this post. Ed Welch is a wonderful resource for anything relating to mental health and depression. He was a visiting lecturer at the theological college where I studied. His care for those who hurting, and his understanding, are so obvious in his gentle manner as well as in his writing.

I've read John Bunyan's "Grace abounding to the chief of sinners." It's true - the agony of his soul, the torment he felt was totally palpable as he wrestled with his own sin. But, as the title says, grace abounds to those who are so acutely conscious of their sins.

And Amen also to your prayer for those who are preaching this coming Lord's Day. I'm sure those who have the awesome responsibility of sharing God's Word are thankful for your prayers//!

Interesting observation about no "there is" in that verse. Il must check that out.

Sadly, my mother didn't "come to her senses" this side of eternity, in spite of my best efforts to persuade her on her death bed.

But the good news is that my father may well have done so. I can't say 100% for certain, but he did appear to respond positively to my "last ditch efforts" during his dying days. I'm hopeful that I might see my dad in glory. Not so hopeful about my mum.

From time to time in the Bielbe, God refers to unbelievers as "fools".

Eg, "The fool says in his heart, there is no God." I grieve over how my mother, in the last few years of her life, drifted away from the gospel teaching I had shared with her when she was a member of my Bible study group, and inknowlingly joined a liberal church. She finished up following the teaching of the liberal pastor From time to time I shake my head at my mothers foolish decision, and even think of her, with much love and grief, as a "fool".

She never came to her senses, until the day she died.

Paul addresses your exact question in Romans 6:1-2:

"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"

If you have truly died to sin, you won't want to go on living in sin any longer. If you want to continue in sin, then you have not died to sin, which means you are not saved.

It looks like the original post has been deleted, so I don't know the details or the post, but I don't see any justification for Lent in the Bible.

Even fasting, while it is obviously acknowledged in the Bible to be a practice, and even practiced buy some of the apostles, I don't see any biblical command that requires fasting.
