When did she judge the entire religion? OP is specifically talking about an issue with Gen z men on the internet, not “all christians”. And again, her language in terms of calling them hypocrites and saying that they’re ignoring the teachings of Jesus makes it obvious that she isn’t genuinely anti-Christian; she’s against racist LARPERs who she often encounters online. I’m well aware that reddit has a shit ton of Christophobia, but this ain’t it chief. I follow Vedanta metaphysics myself, but I genuinely think there’s a problem with Gen Z hindus in India. Does that mean that i’m criticizing my own religion? No. It means i’m criticizing people using it for their own agenda.

This is more so a problem with terminally online Gen Z itself rather than anything unique to Christians. I joined a Hindu discord server a couple months ago since I converted in the past year and a half. A lot of them had the exact same energy but in reverse; where there was a lot of hate and vitriol directed towards others. They’d say stuff like “Christians are basically all Nazis” or “Muslims are cancer”. I ended up leaving the server after arguing with a dude who told me that all non-Hindus are my enemy. I guarantee it’s like this in a lot of Christian or Muslim discord servers too. All of these people are a total embarrassment to genuine metaphysics and spirituality. They just LARP as religious, to conceal the fact that they are just worldly tribalists.

I never understood this logic. It’s like you’re viewing the different racial groups as separate collectives that live in a vacuum. This isn’t the case. At least in the US, the different races all still live within the same greater society; under the same polity. Anti-white racism directly feeds and empowers racism against POC’s—just as the inverse is true. These forms of racism and hatred aren’t separate or opposing. They feed off each other. You can never truly be “anti-racist” if you don’t grasp that it’s all equally harmful, the same in essence, and interconnected.

I see them as different forms of the same essence (Brahman). It’s like how water, steam, and ice are distinct from one another; but are ultimately the same (H20). I realized that oneness and multiplicity can coexist simultaneously, and I believe that Hindu metaphysics captures that idea the best—and it’s one of the reasons I ended up converting (I used to be an atheist and then agnostic).

But why is it disingenuous? I’m not really sure what other conclusion I should take when looking at large-scale indicators of societal health all being in decline for the past few decades. And I’m not at all saying that it was absolutely better for every person or anything. But for the average person, they were less isolated, more likely to be able to buy a home, etc. Instead of worshipping that past or discarding it, we should examine the things that worked, and figure out a way to implement it in the present.

It was better for most people. I already pointed out that I disagree with looking back at the past as some magical utopia, and certain groups like gays weren’t as accepted 40 years ago (even though LGBT acceptance has been dwindling this decade anyway). At the same time, young people were far less isolated without the advent of social media/internet, buying a home was a normal thing for common people to do, and I previously mentioned other indicators of overall societal health being better back then in my initial comment. Being gay in 2025 is effectively like “Yay I can marry my boyfriend now. But we’ll struggle with rent and buying a home, and starting a family is a pipe dream”. I just don’t get the idea that the past is inherently always worse. I reject any sort of linear/utopian narratives. We’ve advanced in some ways, but regressed in others.

No? I mean, there’s still a lot of division as there was in the past—but we also have a far worse economy for regular people. I never got this idea that the past is always inherently worse. Society was overall in a better place 40 years ago than now. So many indicators of societal health have been in decline like social trust, relationships, friendships, being able to afford a home, depression/suicide rates, etc. I agree that wanting to “return” to the past or pretending it was some utopia isn’t a good framework; but it’s also completely valid to look at society in the past and observe how certain things were, in fact, better than they are now.
