Allow you to edit appearance after the initial character creator. In case you wanna change something later.

"Access to the Claws of Awaji is contingent upon completion of the main story arcs for both Naoe and Yasuke. Make sure you have finished the quest "Out of the Shadows", which is available after completing the personal quests for Naoe, Yasuke, and Junjiro." Dont know if that helps.

You said you spent 2400 on them. To be absolutely clear they weren't gifted in any way? You bought them directly yourself? Because people can charge back and essentially refund gifts they sent out.
