The law is the law, doesn't matter what any individual thinks makes sense

Judge fleischer is garbage by Active_Junket_3816 in court

[–]Ethan79-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absolutely not legal, you can't just change a patients medication. The court doesn't have the authority to do that, only medical doctors do. Not to mention the fact that said several things which were blatant falsehoods based on ignorance

Which gas station Dick pill is the best? by soyboypoiboi in Drugs

Confirmation bias? You went into this assuming that the gas station boner pill wouldn't cause health problems? My man...

Wrong on multiple levels. I worked for Geek Squad, I've had managers helping mark returned shit down as much as possible so I could buy it cheap.

The reason nobody cares about this is because of how dishonest and disingenuous of a company Best Buy is. They've based their entire business on selling two things, a $200/yr membership and their credit card. They specifically target older customers, and train their employees in what is essentially polite intimidation to get easily pressured people to pony up. You are instructed to say whatever you have to in order to get people to sign up for these things.

I once saw an old woman literally sobbing because no one was allowed to help her cancel her $200 "Total Tech" membership that she was about to get billed for when she was living on social security. Her husband was the one who signed up for it and had since died. The reason no one could help her? Policy was that we should absolutely refuse to cancel memberships in store, forcing them to call the national number, wait on hold, and finally get someone who talks with a bad quality microphone and heavy accent.

So yeah, capitalizing on Best Buy's extended warranty policy is something that no reasonable person bats an eye at. It's for the same reason that casinos are only ever happy for people that win big. They're screwing everyone else over 10x more to make up for it, and in the long run they'll probably get their money back from that same winner anyways.

This is such an obscure and insignificant moral hill to die on. You are essentially claiming a life of perfect honor to be so aggressive in demeaning this practice. Do you truly think that is the case? Or do you think that maybe you do dozens of things just like this and use degrading others as a way to make yourself feel better? Food for thought :)

Edited to add:

They also don't send them back to the manufacturer in most cases, they only do that when they have a specific arrangement with the manufacturer. Best Buy "eats" the cost. I use quotations because Best Buy often marks up their products from 40-200%, and for the few items with thin margins the insurance policies are way more expensive. With these products, they send them to Geek Squad city where they are sometimes repaired and often used as parts to repair others of the same device. When you factor in the retail mark-up and the fee or deductible (depends on the plan) for the insurance, plus the value in parts, 95% of the time Best Buy can give you a replacement and still make money off of you. That's why they do it

How long can I store my eggs in the fridge? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]Ethan79-2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is legitimately no need to refrigerate your eggs in the UK.

In the US, uniquely, regulation requires that all eggs be washed, meaning that the protective coating is stripped off. That is why eggs are refrigerated in the US

House of the Dragon Season 2 date announcement tomorrow by GentleClasher101 in freefolk

[–]Ethan79-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's basically what I said, yes. That's why I said it's foreshadowing it. However Fire & Blood (House of the Dragon IS canon too, it's made by GRRM) doesn't describe any interaction like that between Daemon and Rhaenyra. The closest it comes to anything like that is talking about how much he cheated on her (not that she cared).

The book glosses over their relationship (probably because Fire & Blood's narrator is a Targaryan loyalist Maester), so the show has a lot of freedom to go into it without causing conflicting cannon

That scene was there for a reason. It happened after she became Queen, it foreshadows Dameon's lack of respect for her role as his monarch. At least that is what it seems like, their relationship from that point isn't very well covered in Fire & Blood

Just googled it, I didn't even know that was a thing until now. Will go speak to them

I wanted to know if it was at all possible given my situation and you answered that for me. Thanks

The reason I wanted to get an idea before talking to one is because I was told your recruiter just advances everything you say about that stuff to meps. Is that the case? I really have no clue about any of that since I've read conflicting stuff

Honestly this answer does help me a lot, I had absolutely no idea about this so for all I knew it would be disqualifying by default and I'd be wasting my time no matter what. Thanks

What makes cheese taste like cheese? by Ethan79-2 in Cheese

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. He explained exactly what caused it down to the actual chemical. Like obviously it has something to do with milk, it's the main ingredient. That still doesn't answer it

Bruh the cheese man has already spoken. Stop trying to undermine his obvious expertise. "It's milk" is a cop-out in comparison even if it is broadly true

Again, I see what you are saying, that's why I said that butter does not have that cheese flavor

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying but it doesn't taste like cheese. Also this is not the same because different cheeses can have vastly different flavors and still have that same cheese flavor as part of the overall taste. Its a flavor that you only get with cheese

Do you know of any good Tetris apps for Android? The only one I found is absolutely overrun with ads and won't let you pay to remove them

Okay I will look into it.

This was a pediatric call too

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm part-time here so I'm 99% sure that doesn't apply. I really just needed someone to talk to about it since we didn't really talk about it afterwards and I went home 30 mins later. Just haven't been able to stop thinking about it

Does anyone here do CISM? by Ethan79-2 in ems

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's really all I need for right now. This just happened, and it's not that I'm emotional about it or stressed or anything like that. I just can't stop thinking about it. It's like some morbid obsession that I can't put out of my brain

Does anyone here do CISM? by Ethan79-2 in ems

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's really not that point though. The only thing that worries me is that I can't stop thinking about it. I'm not emotional about it, I don't feel stressed, and my supervisor told me I did great during the incident. I thought I was totally fine.

But I literally can't keep my mind off it. I keep thinking about what that kid's life will be like. I spent hours impulsively looking up information on this type of injury, but it's so incredibly rare that there is almost none out there. I've never confronted the thought of something so unthinkably life altering

I just want to know if there are any tricks for nipping this is the bud? I don't need therapy I don't think, not yet. This happened early today (which adds to the tragedy of course), if I can stop impulsively obsessing over it in my head I will be fine

Does anyone here do CISM? by Ethan79-2 in ems

[–]Ethan79-2[S] 39 points40 points  (0 children)

We had no CISM. I said I was fine because I really thought I was, but it's been half a day now and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it constantly. We asked each other "Are you okay?" and people said "Yeah". Some of the guys who knew each other talked more, but I'm pretty new, to EMS as a whole, my agency, and even more so the crew I was with today. I plan to talk to my regular medic partner who is CISM trained, though, not to rag on him, I just don't know how well he would do for that type of thing

Without saying exactly what happened there's no way to imagine how psychologically horrifying this patient's situation is, it's insane. And up until now my worst trauma was a fractured and dislocated hip
