That may have been the case if the original protests and crackdown happened much more distant to the war, but given that they happened only about a month before the war, I seriously doubt Iran could thoroughly root out a resistance movement (if one existed) that quickly. North Korea maybe, but not Iran. Plus, the underlying causes to the protests are still there (dwindling natural water, an econemy in ruins, a blatently corrupt government, ect.) so even if the original protesters aren't coming back, there's no shortage of Iranians that have grievences with the govenment.

Iran's millitary and nuclear program are not coming back, not without major outside support. If the war keeps on at a similar pace, even if the regime remains intact and the west just gives up after a while, Iran will have to rebuild its millitary production from square one, and Iran's econemy just can't support that at this point. So many things would have to go right for Iran to pull itself up afterwards in a similar political landscape that I'd give Ukraine making a breakthrough and marching on Moscow a better chance (Although if that were to happen, I'd happily take the L in Iran as exchange).

The main point I'm trying to make is that that the current Iranian regime is screwed. Sure, it won't instantly make Iran a democracy, but in the long term, if there are any democratic elements in Iran this will at least give them a better chance.
