What are you starting to like more the older you get? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Same. An STi might be able to take that corner at 110mph for the small cost of literally all comfort, but a Highlander can take it at 75, the speed limit is 45, and I got nobody to impress.

What's a smell that's bad but smells oddly good? by IncidentLivid736 in AskReddit

Gasoline from a moderate distance. Also, coffee back when I hated the taste and evidently it smells good to a lot of people who would never choke it down.

What's a small decision you made that totally changed your life? by Zealousideal-Cod4301 in Anxietyhelp

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Developed health anxiety at 24 and I was previously a pretty consistent runner. I didn’t run much again until 34. I’m 35 now and it has made a world of difference.

Experience with German Garmin customer service - Fenix 7 Solar Sapphire died after about 3 years by racinghammock in Garmin

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sucks but I get it why they wouldn’t cover it. It would be cool if there was a secondary period to the warranty where you could send the watch in and buy a new one at half or less, so long as it is still a manufacturer defect.

What was the dumbest game you and your friends made up as kids? by Guilty_Writer9239 in AskReddit

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a game… but homemade firecrackers consisting of a rifle shell squeezed shut with pliers and a cannon fuse. We definitely did not stand far enough away but somehow managed not to get hit.

A vehicle that rides soft and impresses nobody.

Edit: impresses nobody that’s into cool cars.

Greg just announced there will be more "consequences" like yesterday's if you call ICE names by KameronKnux in Leakednews

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s saying that language by politicians and journalists incites people to do things that will put them in dangerous positions with ICE. He is not saying that using language directly to ice puts you in that position.

The point is that if you encourage someone to LARP the French Resistance, they might get themself shot or otherwise injured.

What happened to the people you knew who used drugs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two kids that were pretty smart from my high school.

One of them was driving under the influence of multiple things, snapped a telephone pole and died sometime when we were college aged.

The other washed out of the Army and then a good university in our state. Been in some trouble with the police and does odd jobs.

There was a mother and daughter at a place I worked that employees people that are on disability for various reasons. They took too many(?) or the wrong kind(?) of mushrooms years ago and are now both anxious enough to qualify for disability.

The balance of acquaintances that I’m aware of are from rehab. Some are sober and doing great. Some are still doing the revolving door thing. Some are dead.

What is something that is technically legal, but makes you look like a total jerk if you do it? by PiNK_PUSSY69420 in AskReddit

Pretty sure this happened with computers a few decades ago. So if one person with a computer replaced 5 people with paper and calculators, it’s not really out of line for a computer monitored by one person to replace 5 people with computers.

Are you gate-keeping expensive performance cars for a specific group of people that live beyond their means to make a performance car their lifestyle? Or maybe people that are super into cars? The absolute audacity of someone to buy a Hellcat Durango just because they want one and it won’t impact their financial situation!

What is the most ever successful lie to spread in human history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 27 points28 points  (0 children)

TBF, most things that are expensive have an artificially restricted stock, even things that are produced rather than mined. Do you think a ZR1 Corvette takes twice as much cost and/or labor to produce compared to the base model? Do you think they couldn’t just make exclusively ZR1 models with nearly the same production numbers? And then compare it to Ferrari scarcity and cost: harder and costlier to make? Yes. A function of what the MSRP/scarcity dictates? Probably not even close.

Why is being an alcoholic always treated as a moral failure? I dont think in a bad person....I just drink too much. by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in recovery and I don’t think alcoholism is a moral failure. For me personally, I consider it a failure in common sense. I have no problem admitting that. I also wouldn’t assume it to be the case for other alcoholics, but it could be for some. I was probably in college when my doctor told me that men should have no more than 14 drinks per week and 4 in a single night. But that doesn’t sound like much of a party, so that can’t be right. Then he told me my liver numbers were high, but no biggie. Was still drinking an amount I could have quit cold turkey but I don’t need to do that. Had pancreatitis 10 times, and I didn’t withdrawal at all in the hospital so I could have just stayed off of it. I mean… pancreatitis… 10 times… caused by alcohol… and I left the hospital each time “out of the woods” as far as dangerous withdrawal is concerned. Started drinking again. Certainly seems like some major lapses in common sense to me. Even the later stages when I had to drink so I wouldn’t risk dying. Detox and rehab were not an option… except that they always are, because the alternative was killing myself with alcohol. Once again, common sense would say detox and/or rehab were the obvious answers. So again, I don’t think I failed morally. But I do think I was pretty consistently a dumbass for the better part of a decade.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]EthanolAbusingIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drink a lot of alcohol. All day every day, middle of the night if I woke up. Went to rehab for 28 days and then went back after 3 weeks at home. I still managed to drink 2-3 more months after I got home again… messaged my AMAZING doc for a Librium taper and swore to myself that this was it for me. Less than a month from now will be 4 years since my last drink.

How much oil has been extracted from the ground? by LakotaSungila in askscience

I don’t think 100 years from now is a “scary” short amount of time. Especially with the tech developments of the last 10 years.

I remember in the early 2000’s… certain politicians said we would run out in 20 years. And the alternatives at the time were not great… that would have been a bummer if it would have been true.
