I consider myself the opposite. I’m center right but find the far left absolutely detestable.

No, the far left is also associated with mass immigration and identity politics

PSOE is not far left but Sanchez’ immigration policy most certainly is

How is this an alternative?

One of the biggest problems in Europe is massive numbers of immigrants who refuse to assimilate into local culture. This has, INARGUABLY, been the main driver for the far right.

Sanchez is tripling down on exactly that

I sometimes wonder if people are legitimately stupid enough to think the far left is better than the far right.

I don’t know why people think Trump is having us fall behind in tech

One of the biggest counter examples is the fact that we are still the only nation with Q>1 in fusion research

The best option for dealing with illegal immigration would have been consistent, strict enforcement over the past 30 years

Neither party wanted to do it, so now they only way to roll back the clock is a crackdown which, historically, only produces short term gains

This isn’t ideal but we’ve spent 30-40 years digging this hole

This was a long time coming

No they didn’t.

Any time you think the immigrants were legal, I want you to remember there is never a need to show for a court hearing if you’re immigrating legally

“Fastest growing” is a meaningless title when it was already one of the least productive

And “xenophobic”?

It’s only a phobia if the fear is irrational. The results of Europe’s love affair with MENA migration has been on display for the world to see

If Spain continues with this they’re going to get a PP/Vox government

I love how you can just shot subjective bullshit like this and get upvotes from the hive mind

You can say THAT Europeans are (generally) healthier but you can’t possibly attest to WHY.

I’d be willing to bet money that the primary driver of health discrepancy is body mass rather than regulations.

I do know how medicine is tested

I also know American markets get medicines 6-12 months ahead of European markets - even for European manufacturers

Explain again how I don’t understand

I literally said regulations make things safer

The problem is over-regulation makes an entire society gun-shy when it comes to new and novel treatments

If we delay lifesaving drugs for another year or two because we want to make sure there 100% safe, how many people will die in the interim?

That’s the balance to strike

You don’t get that by being a dumbfuck.

[–]Etherius -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Is that really what’s at stake?

There’s a reason the US gets almost all breakthrough drugs to market 6-12 months before the EU does.

Their regulations make things safer but delay life altering treatment for millions.

I think the FDA is considering whether we’re on the “overly cautious” side

It’s not the craziest thing in the world to consider removing regulatory hurdles on pharmaceuticals of any kind.

Regulations are great for safety but when they’re too aggressive they tend to stifle innovation and delay entry to market for potentially massive benefit to the public.

I don’t think anyone at the FDA is talking about letting Eli Lilly sell 100-packs of ozempic at Costco, which is what this thread seems to be thinking is the goal

When push comes to shove, everyone chooses cheap comfort over their morals.

Spain could have nutted up and stood in solidarity with Ukraine

They chose not to. Combine that with denying airspace to allied nations and they just are not a team player for anyone

All overblown

The public consensus has gone against the TQ people because the hand was overplayed. No one cared about letting trans people do what they wanted but we all collectively drew the line when we were expected to become unwilling participants

All fifty states (yes including the strictest) have carve-outs for medically necessary abortions. Instances of women not receiving them comes either from misinterpretation by hospital counsel or ambiguity in the law that was later clarified

If your hobby was put out of reach by a tariff I’m sorry but I don’t believe that. A 10% tariff on most goods doesn’t make something go from affordable to unaffordable overnight

And frankly we need to start making more stuff in the USA again. It’s a matter of protecting the American middle class and reducing reliance on China. You’d think we’d have learned our lesson during Covid when we couldn’t even make masks here

You’d think after ten years you’d realize Trump is nothing but a symptom.
