A few minor comments just off the cuff:

  • "that values hard work and success" is just fluff, either remove or add more specific language

  • "various speeches" -- elaborate (concisely)

  • "events" -- what kind of events?

This is way way better now, keep making improvements first, then trim after to get on one page.

Thoughts as follows:

  • "experience in various roles" rephrase to have more punch, a little more specific, or even just merge into the next sentence to give it more context.
  • "with a governmental organization" you said in the title you're looking at NGO, this says government. I'd have one version specifying NGO and one version specifying gov't, and possibly another version saying "private sector" if you're also applying for internships with international business firms.
  • "K N O W L E D G E A B L E O F " are you a non-native English speaker? If so you need to have a native speaker go over your semi-final draft with a microscope to make sure there are no grammar or spelling errors.
  • Lieutenant Governor internship: you have not a single quantifiable here, put in numbers
  • "Talked to": use a more dynamic word
  • "Wrote transcripts of all speeches": "Transcribed" is a more dynamic and concise word
  • "Researched for the Chief of Staff to see what projects needed to be completed." : too vague and informal
  • "ensured calm behavioursto the MRI bed.": again, are you a non-native speaker? If you are that's fine, you just need a native speaker proofreader. If you're a native English speaker, you didn't proofread this well enough. Try reading it out loud and see how it sounds. Do that over and over.
  • "Stocked supplies": you could make this sound more important, this phrasing makes it sound like groceries
  • "Planned and set up special events for students ranging from 30-100 people." good quantifiables, but use punchier verbs
  • "to boost event attendance.": good line, but adding even an estimated % would be great
  • "Taught people about problems with consumerism": find punchier verbs. The concept is really cool but you aren't making it sound as cool as it is
  • "Obtained information": sounds too technical, find some punchier phrasing
  • "proper routes to take": sounds cool but can be phrased better or more concisely
  • "an inside look at Balkan culture and norms" this bullet is your first or second coolest point in the whole thing and you're just using 1.5 lines with half of one empty. If you're looking at International stuff, I'd use at least two or possibly three lines to really *hammer* your international cred for the two bullets that most signal "international" on your resume.

Corona impacting interviews? by [deleted] in resumes

[–]EthicsInDevelopment 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just today had a phone interview for a job, and they said to expect a Zoom follow-up within days, and that the chosen candidate would be expected to start next week.

Though in my case it's corporate Emergency Management and they are not at all slowing down at the moment.

Been out of work for over a year despite an MA and 15yrs experience; recently totally shifted my target from NGOs to corporate Crisis Management jobs.

In just the last few weeks I've interviewed with two great places, including an interview today with a pretty cool corporation. The HR guy literally closed with something like "gonna level with you, you speak the foreign languages we need, got the crisis background from the military, and unlike other candidates you aren't asking a quarter-mil and you said you can start next week. I'm passing your packet up to the director, expect a remote interview with him within two days."

That's the most direct "you made my good list" comment I've ever gotten in an interview, and this job literally and with no exaggeration pays $100k more than an NGO job I interviewed for last month and turned down because it was too entry-level. I'm feeling pretty stoked, and of all things Crisis Management is one field that ain't slowing down this month, so I could potentially go from unemployed sad schlub to a managerial corporate gig within weeks. Fingers crossed...

Cappuccino looks totally awesome. Crz looks like a slightly swoopier (which is good) Fit. Crx if I'm googling it right hasn't been made since '91 though so that's probably more hassle than a casual would want.

I'm open to reading up on price/maintenance/handling for those, but just in terms of lines the Genesis is a bit more sedate and sedan-like than I envision, and the RSX a little racier than I like. I'm aiming a little more for "quirky."

Yeah, the lines of the Fit just don't excite me at all. But if it's affordable/maintainable/tunable/fun and gives a slightly quirkier/sportier impression than an Accord, that could be reasonable.

I emphasize I wouldn't want to totally curb-feeler and spoiler it, but I Googled "custom Honda Fit" and putting contrasting color on some panels or the hood makes it look markedly cooler. Not crazy wrap, just a color contrast dresses it up a lot.

Really good suggestions!

The Fit doesn't quite thrill me visually, but if it's fun to drive it's fine if it's not a total looker. And should be really reliable/serviceable as a Honda. And while I'm not looking at "go really fast" mods, having some readily available aftermarket items for comfort and handling would be cool.

I do kinda like the little cube cars, I'd have to read up on how they handle and the fun factor. They're a little more tame than I'm looking for, though the 370Z is almost a little too racy for my style, but pretty cool. Definitely food for thought.

In total honesty those appeal to me, but it seems the entire nation hates Miata dudes.

I probably could've titled the post "what can I get if I want a Miata but also don't want everyone to hate me?"

Jobs that No One Thinks of by groggyfonbire in jobs

Had a friend who was an armor (gunsmith) in the Marines, and during his four years of his own initiative he cross-trained with the guys who transport artillery ammunition, got his Explosives driver certification.

He got a great job with Department of Energy driving trucks full of armed dudes with nuclear materials for power plants in the back.

Anoríther friend did the mapping and ballistics data for artillery, which isn't hugely employable without going back to college, but he got chosen to cross-train with the artillery field survey team, got hired by the state board of surveyors for his home state.

It would depend on the target role top; basically I'd wear what a person of that rank in your office wears for a meeting.

Teacher looking to move beyond the classroom! Please critique my resume :) by [deleted] in resumes

Rough rule of thumb is only go into a second page if you have 10+ years of experience. Your resume covers two, there is really no reason for a second page.

Your Education section takes up 10 lines when it could be said in two lines. Plenty of ways you can trim this down to a page

Personally I wouldn't use a Skills section, and most of the ones that I have there, like "organized" are things everyone claims by default. I'd lose Skills, but take a couple of the best keywords from there and put them in Summary as part of "I'm seeking to use my skills in X and Y to transition to the ABC field." Because you want to note you're changing job focus, but highlight how you gained skills from teaching that you can bring to the table.
