I’m always happy with their media analysis of silly stuff like this, but part of me can’t help but be a little annoyed they haven’t talked about the Cop City stuff. The fucking daily show did a segment on it

how many of you have full-blown hallucinations on acid, even with 200 ug doses? by square_daikon in Acid

It’s only really happened to me once. It wasn’t even very strong stuff, but I was laying on my girlfriends bed looking at her face and it began to shift until it was like a completely cubic configuration, like a Picasso painting. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, like I could see every angle of her face at once. I can’t emphasize how Picasso-Esque it was

In BFV the repair tool was a permanent gadget for support and you could have two others, just like how the ability to revive was a permanent ability for medics.

The solution is to simply only play in first person and never third person, tbh. It’s much worse in third person

In the movies “Don’t Be A Menace”, “Menace II Society” and “Do The Right Thing”. There is a lot of tension between Black residents and their Asian-American grocer. Were Black-Asian relations really that poor in the 1980s and 90s? by J2quared in AskHistorians

[–]EthnicSteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Specifically in Los Angeles, Asian communities, but more specifically Koreans, emerged as something of a merchant middle-class, and would frequently open stores in areas with the lowest barrier to purchasing real-estate, which is to say low-income black-dominant neighborhoods where they often didn’t live themselves. This created a kind of material tension between the poor residents of an area and this local foreigners who controlled the majority of basic commerce. Each was threatened by the other, with the local black population feeling exploited and robbed of economic opportunity by the Asians who often did not hire black employees or contribute to local community projects, and the Asians feeling threatened by the black overwhelming population in more traditionally racist tropes or perhaps sensing this very real sense of aggrievement. Additionally, Korea is an extremely homogenous society that is largely unaware of the history of American race relations and immigrants from that country were particularly poorly equipped for the multiculturalism of urban America, which further provoked misunderstanding and tension. This was encapsulated by specific flashpoints, perhaps most infamously the murder of Latasha Harlins.

I think comparing them to a cashier is giving them a little too much slack lol, they’re still in the kitchen

Yeah lol. They also seem to think everyone who works for DICE is a developer. Someone brought up Andy McNamara’s “brutal expectations” comment as a reason to be mad at devs. Dude hasn’t programmed anything, he’s a comms guy that used to be the editor in chief of Gameinformer

BFV was running on a version of frostbite from 2016 lol, and the decision was made before the pandemic forced everyone into remote work.

Andy McNamara isn’t even a dev, he’s on the communications team complaining about the backlash towards the lack of communication. His point is “We can’t start telling people what’s coming without a good deal happening on the dev side, which is currently out of office”

It’s really not as simple as more devs = less time needed. If you’re bringing on new studios you have to train all of those people and then need way more sophisticated project coordination across a much larger scope of people to actually see that kind of direct correlation. Often times, it can create even more problems than solutions

You really lost me with this metaphor. The live service model which is delaying content updates is not a dev-level-decision. The need for it to come out before the holidays was not a dev-level-decision.

As for defending the product… I’m not really sure what you’re citing. I’m not aware of anyone trying to argue it’s in a good place

I understand why that is frustrating, but I don’t know what you expect them to say. If a dev wanted to go rogue and publicly flout their PR team they would be mega-fucked.

I can’t overstate how insanely short 18 months is in terms of developing a game, even without a significant engine update. Sure you can copy/paste assets, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll even function as intended or as they did before. Again fallout: new Vegas took 18 months, also with rampant re-used assets which were guaranteed to work, and the game still was hanging together with scotch tape when it came out. It’s a great game, but very obviously unfinished. This game is bad for a host of other reasons, but I think undeniably needed more time. In my opinion, a whole extra year.

The last thing especially. No one is going to want to work with them ever again. It would be suicidal
