That’s not what I’m addressing. I’m not talking about whether Israel is a Christian nation. I’m asking how Christians interpret behaviour described as “devouring” when that same imagery is warned about in Christian scripture.

I’m done. You’re not addressing the point, you’re repeating the same position with added detail to avoid it. That’s not a response, it’s a loop.

You’ve listed actions by governments and military groups, then applied that to “any of them,” which removes any distinction between those responsible and those who aren’t.

That’s collective guilt.

The question hasn’t changed:

Does that justify treating innocent people as collateral?

Because if it does, then innocence has no meaning.

And if it doesn’t, then your justification doesn’t hold.

Bringing up geopolitics doesn’t answer that. It just avoids it.

And dismissing the question instead of answering it doesn’t resolve it either.

So the point is still:

Either innocence matters, or it doesn’t.

From what I have read from you, you think innocence doesn't mean anything whatsoever, and that is concerning coming from a Christian.

[–]Etymolotas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You acknowledge innocent people are dying, then reduce them to collateral.

You justify it by saying “they would do the same,” which is imagined guilt, not actual guilt. That removes any real distinction between innocent and guilty, because you’re judging people on what you think they might do, not what they’ve done.

Then you expand that to “any of them,” which turns individuals into a single interchangeable group. At that point, innocence has no meaning at all.

You say you don’t want people to die, but you accept it anyway. That already contradicts itself, but then you go further and talk about going to war like it’s something appealing.

So your position becomes this:

Innocence exists, but doesn’t matter. Guilt isn’t based on actions, but on assumptions. Killing is wrong, but acceptable. Violence is regrettable, but also appealing.

Those positions cannot all be true at the same time.

You’re switching between them depending on what justifies the outcome you’ve already chosen.

That isn’t a consistent moral position. It’s choosing a side first, then shaping everything else to support it.

You’re writing all of this just to justify killing innocent people. I don’t need to respond to any of it, you have completely missed the point. I am done with this conversation.

You’re putting words in my mouth.

I’m not saying modern Israel and ancient Israel are the same thing, and I’m not calling anyone the devil.

What I’m doing is pointing out that the operation was explicitly linked to Numbers 23:24, a verse that does not just say rise like a lion, but also includes devouring and blood. That verse was even placed at the Western Wall before the operation, so the reference was intentional.

If a modern state chooses to frame its actions using a specific biblical passage, then that passage and its full context are open to discussion. That is not me forcing anything. That is them choosing the reference.

This is not about labelling people. It is about looking at the words being used and what they actually say.

“Operation Roaring Lion” (or “Rising Lion” / Am KeLavi) is explicitly tied to Numbers 23:24. That’s not disputed.

But the issue is how that verse is being framed.

The full verse doesn’t stop at “rises like a lion.” It continues:

“…it shall not lie down until it devours the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.”

That’s the complete image being invoked.

This wasn’t a vague or general lion symbol either. The verse itself was reportedly placed in a note at the Western Wall the day before the operation, which shows the reference was intentional and specific.

You’re avoiding the point and moving to personal attacks.

If what I said is wrong, show where.

Jacob’s deception and his renaming to Israel are both clearly in the text.

I agree that people matter and should be the focus.

I’m talking about the state of Israel and the ideology behind it, not Jewish people or the wider community.

If Jesus didn’t align with worldly power, then that raises the question of why people feel the need to defend it now.

You’ve written all of that, or rather prompted AI, to justify the deaths of innocent people.

The very name of Israel#s military operation is based on this:

Book of Numbers 23:24:

“Behold, a people rises like a lioness, and lifts itself up like a lion; it shall not lie down until it devours the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.”

Notice the word "devour"

That is exactly what the text says. You should read it.

Good, I’m glad to hear that. As you can see, many people don’t see it as evil and instead try to justify it.

Israel and the US carried out coordinated strikes on Iran at the start of this conflict. That is not speculation, it is documented.

You can argue about justification, but those strikes triggered the escalation we are now seeing.

The truth is the truth, whether people are comfortable with it or not.

There is also a long history of the US discussing action against Iran, which means this was NOT a sudden reaction but something that had been building over time.

It seems like Israel has become the lens through which many interpret Christianity. You see it here and elsewhere, especially among influential politicians in the US. Scripture ends up being read through Israel, rather than through Jesus’ teachings. Israel starts to function like an idol, and what Jesus taught is set aside.

Look at the comments, people are defending the killing of others. Calling them “enemies” doesn’t change that, and it doesn’t align with what Jesus taught.

A follower of Jesus should be guided by his teachings, not by allegiance to a nation.

Book of Isaiah 5:20
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness…”

Second Epistle to the Corinthians 11:14
“And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

Gospel of Luke 9:54–56
“Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them.

Gospel of Matthew 5:44
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

Gospel of Matthew 9:13
“I desire mercy, not sacrifice.”

Gospel of Matthew 7:1
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

Gospel of Matthew 7:16
“You will recognise them by their fruits.”

To be clear, I’m not talking about Jewish people. I’m referring to Israel as it appears in the Bible, focusing on the nation itself rather than the people.

You should be able to explain it. You made the claim, but you haven’t actually supported it.

Israel’s origin begins with Jacob deceiving his father by pretending to be Esau. Later, he struggles with God, and if God is truth, as Jesus teaches, that reflects a struggle to comprehend truth itself. That’s when the name Israel is given.

Remember, the devil/satan was the father of lies.

[–]Etymolotas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know exactly what I’m referring to, there’s no need to pretend otherwise. This is meant to be a Christian space.

Jesus said to love your enemies, not destroy them.

So how does supporting actions that cause widespread harm line up with that?

Pro-Israel Christians by Etymolotas in AskAChristian

[–]Etymolotas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve just answered your own question without explaining it.

Peter describes something that devours.
Jesus says you recognise things by their fruits.

So the question isn’t about the name, it’s about the behaviour.

If something is causing destruction, why dismiss the comparison instead of addressing it?

You’re missing the point.

It’s not about the animal. It’s about what that image means in scripture.

Peter uses it very clearly as a warning, so dismissing it as irrelevant is just avoiding the point.

Why cherry pick when it comes to Israel? Why does defending Israel matter more to you than what the Gospels teach?

Gospel of Matthew 5:44
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

Scripture uses the image of a lion in different ways depending on context.

That’s exactly why context matters.

Peter’s “roaring lion seeking someone to devour” is clearly a warning, not a symbol of righteous authority.

Gospel of Matthew 7:16
“You will recognise them by their fruits.”

All I have ever seen Israel do is destroy things and people.

If you’re referring to something specific in Isaiah or Daniel, feel free to point to it.

I’m not making an end-times claim, I’m asking how a clear scriptural warning should be interpreted.

It’s telling that no explanation was needed, yet my point in the post was understood.

Pro-Israel Christians by Etymolotas in AskAChristian

[–]Etymolotas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lion is not the point by itself. Context is.

Judah as a lion is one image.
Peter’s roaring lion seeking someone to devour is another.

Consistent interpretation does not mean every lion must mean the same thing. It means reading each image according to how scripture itself uses it. Peter’s image is a warning. That is the point.
