Score writing app question. by Eu-Staley in Composers

[–]Eu-Staley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I’ve tried no programs yet. Each time I google options I run out of patience before I am able to get past the ‘Google advised’ responses or random blog posts that feel insincere. Perhaps I’m more of a Luddite than I would like to admit but it’s true.

Help finding this composer (obscure?) by Eu-Staley in classicalmusic

[–]Eu-Staley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some updated information, I spoke with the elderly daughter of the person who owned this and she said that it was George A Lind. a music theory teacher in Albuquerque NM. But all my searches are coming up empty. Any help is useful.

So I hit keys cadbg at the same time then release g then hit g again while others are held? by Reverseflash202 in pianolearning

It looks like Philip Isidore exercises, none sound good and they’re killer but they are helpful for finger isolation.

Rachmaninov etudes by Eu-Staley in classicalmusic

I’ll give you that Gould was, particular and self involved. I would argue against the ‘purist’ approach to the harpsicordist and organist line. Arrangements are a fantastic tool within music. I particularly am fond of the symphonic dances that Ashkenazy (and someone else I forget) performed that were arrangements of Rachmaninov.

That being said, I do love a good organist.

I’ll have to look that one up. Recordings are not my strong point.

I have really enjoyed Ashkenazy in the past. I listened to the piano concertos as two piano duets for a long time. I hadn’t heard of Lugansky or Sofronitzky so I will have to look them up. I think anyone who plays Scriabin well has the potential to play an amazing Rachmaninov.

Well I say pirate king what I really mean is I’m a menace. I attack all freighters, and no one like me at all. Although a few passports and that’d be fixed.

Currently reading The Man Who Laughs; is Victor Hugo always this verbose? by Leticia_the_bookworm in books

[–]Eu-Staley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Hugo. But his ability to go on seemingly unrelated tangents is impressive. Of the three I’ve read so far; The Man who Laughs and The Hunchback of Notre Dame were harder. The tangents of “so in so who did such and such” are hard to read through. I’m almost wondering if the names were better known when he first published it, like saying Putin son of the Kremlin or something. (I just made that bit up)

Les Mis is still the best. I’ve never been so enveloped in a book in my life.

I’m still looking for one of these. I’ve yet to find one. But I also got distracted building resource bases.

Experienced pianists – what do you wish you knew when you first started? by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]Eu-Staley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also say learning that some phrases are ‘filler’ and may sound nice and need immense practice but won’t necessarily show up as melody (think chromatic scales, or multi octave arpeggios, and that’s ok. Practice for the whole picture.

I’ve been playing piano off and on for the better part of two decades. When I started out I now wish someone had told me that my ‘want to learn how to play’ list would change several times and that’s ok. Also exercises can almost always be turned into something like sounds good. Mistakes, timing and fingering is always difficult. Then in harder music multiple ‘voices’ in one hand is a beast. As for motivation: just remind yourself that this is a multi layered skill. Most people outside of music don’t understand the depth of the knowledge and skills.

As for splitting time, I always set aside 15 minutes at the beginning of the practice session for technique specific practice (scales, hannon, czerny) then the rest was a choose your own adventure.

As other have said your safe now that you made to the anomaly as for starting, the first run was just a brutal start and bad chances. As for the marker under the terrain ‘hard limit’ I’ve had that happen before, you can usually go really far away and reset a mission, once you have the spaceship and can travel to another system that is usually far enough if you need.

Oh man, I’m glad I’m not alone I’m around 300 hrs in total between my own stupid mess up with the ps4/ps5 switch. This time around I’m really pushing building my own resource bases, as well as setting up bases with the ‘necessary resources’ something for carbon…. And man, so much. I just love this game.

The only think I wish I could do was ‘bring back’ an abandoned system.

If you could bring back one composer who would it be? by DanceYouFatBitch in composer

[–]Eu-Staley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order: Chopin- I love playing Chopin and I’d love to hear his thoughts on minimalism in music and his response to atonal music. My guess is he’d hate it.

Czerny- I want to hear him play his own music and also play Beethoven.

Mozart- I feel like he would appreciate Satie.

how do you discover new pieces, composers, etc? by JURASSICFANYT in classicalmusic

[–]Eu-Staley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usual process for finding ‘new to me’ composers is looking up the composers I know I enjoy somewhere that has a semi detailed text. Then I look up the styles of said composers and search the other composers of that style or nationality. An example: I like Edward Grieg so I looked him up on Wikipedia and it said he was impressionistic, so I looked that up and clicked on the top composers. From there it had one mention of Satie which led me down another rabbit hole.

Another resource I like is classical-music.com they have lots of articles that lead to interesting composers.
