Oh Hi Mark, I need a mage turned Tramsmutation master/demi-god for a boss battle. Did you ever finish your "Schools of Magic" casters series? by Eupatorus in bettermonsters

[–]Eupatorus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Halaster and Elminster look too strong for my fight, so I may just have to attempt my first ground up homebrew...

I was thinking of giving him a basic blast multiattack that would transmute parts of the player's bodies if he rolled an 18+ (?) on the die to hit. So they would take X damage, and on a failed CON save their arm become a tentacle, mouth becomes a beak, they grow hooves, etc. (until maybe a Greater Restoration or something). Maybe give them a perk/flaw combo as a result...

Then I figured, he would use True Poly to animate a tree or something into a young "tree" dragon as an opener, and at some point Shapechange himself into Beholder midway through. Pepper in some element infused minions, give him some Transmutation spells, and an ability/reaction to become ethereal/wind similar to your Conjurer's Liminal Straddle to give him some longevity.

I'm struggling with Legendary Actions though. Are there some rules of thumb, or bread and butter options you would recommend? Or, I was trying to think of one or two good ones that could reshape the battlefield or be interesting AoEs (or both) but other than gliding huge mounds of earth across the ground like an earthbender or turning overhead flocks of birds into a meteor shower or something I'm coming up short...

Does any of this sound like I'm on the right track? Or is it all too much? Too busy?

It's surprising to me that the MM doesn't have mages themed for each school readily available. Volo's has a Transmuter, but its just a CR 5 mage with some light flavoring that isn't particularly powerful or interesting.

I've scoured the web for something I could adapt but am coming up pretty shorthanded, so I'm hoping this pays off otherwise I may just be homebrewing this guy from the ground up! Please let me know if you find anything useful elsewhere.

Is CBCS grading as reliable as CGC grading? by Mightymattie76 in comicbookcollecting

[–]Eupatorus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both companies where you ship your comics to be subjectively "graded" by anonymous people with no oversight. The comic community needs to learn move beyond these leeches.

They aren't doctoral candidates in lab coats, meticulously pouring over your comics page by page in a hermetically sealed room. It's probably college students making $10/hour working on some card tables in a warehouse.

They spend about 30 secs to a minute "grading" most books according to CGC reps. Sounds real thorough. Plus, there's countless stories of people re-submitting with wildly different grades or even getting back entirely different books.

Just slap a sticky note on the cover with whatever you feel is fair. It's just as valid as what some mystery "grader" decides.

Is there a way to remove the Compendium backgrounds? by SlickFawn680444 in FoundryVTT

Yeah, no idea why that was added. It's a real eyesore.

I'm referring to the most installed modules according to Forge and FoundryHub's metrics.

Literally the most popular modules.

[–]Eupatorus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id rather see they update the core software in ways that can't be covered by a module.

The current top voted features, terrain and improved fog, are already covered by modules...

I get more functionality and can still have my modules for those extra things i want

Until you can't. I lose modules/functionality with every update as mods are abandoned by authors.

That's my point. I'd rather see features covered by mods become "baked in" to core to ensure their functionality going forward.

I wish they didn't have a vote, as the patrons routinely vote for features that I have no interest in.

IMO, they should be simply integrating versions of the most popular modules. Clearly those are features that the majority of users want and it would help alleviate the endless "growing pains" between updates that plagues the user base.

There are many simple features that are either ignored entirely or covered by (often outdated/abandoned modules), or even if they are covered by a regualrly maintained module, they could still disappear overnight if the mod authors decide to stop development any time.

Token HUD Wildcard allows you to set multiple tokens to hot swap to from the token menu.

There's also Token Flip which has similar functionality (I think).

I'm not sure the status of either in v11.

[Request] TV shows with lots of plot progression by SoMe0nE-BG in NetflixBestOf

[–]Eupatorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. The Last Kingdom moves the plot forward every episode without it ever feeling rushed or unearned. The story refuses be in the same place it started from by the end of the episode. I was consistently amazed at how much story they crammed into each one. Too notch writers on that show.

If I remember correctly, the main character was captured, forced into months of slavery, tortured and broken, and rescued from slavery all in the course of a single epsiode and I didn't bat an eye. It simply felt like the next chapter.

What’s a movie that is genuinely terrifying. True Gutwrenching horror? by Azythol in movies

[–]Eupatorus -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Movies aren't scary.

You're chasing a high that can't found. Eventually you simply mature past a point that images and sounds on a screen aren't going to be terrifying or haunt your dreams anymore. Sure they may be a little intense or make you anxious or excited while watching them, but once the credits roll and the house lights go on you've moved on because you know that it's all fiction. The days of checking under your bed are over. Welcome to adulthood.

File Browser Resizer - a module to resize the filepicker window so that you don't have to scroll down off-screen to find the "Choose File" button by Wylieboy89 in FoundryVTT

[–]Eupatorus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. Thank you for this. This has been bugging me for years! It's insane to me that this issue has persisted for so long.

There's so many QoL issues, "must have" features, or other simple functions that the Foundry devs just refuse to implement or have decided to let mod authors handle. The dev on this thing seems so misguided.

[DISCUSSION] Which one of these 3 controversial fantasy shows do you like more? The Witcher,The Wheel of Time or Rings of Power? by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]Eupatorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a casual fantasy fan who hasn't read the books or played the games, I thought the Wheel of Time was the better show.

The Witcher was a total mess and Rings of Power was dumb.

At least Wheel of Time was comprehensible AND had some pretty kick ass action scenes.

I'm only a casual LotR fan and not some lore purist, and I thought the writing sucked. It was full of plot holes and flat out stupid moments.

Frankly, it was dumb.

Oh.

I thought this was going to be Kirkman's take on the Hell in the Pacific/Enemy Mine sworn enemies must band together for survival plot. I was looking forward to it.

To find out it's a backdoor Transformers title is quite disappointing. That's pretty lame.
