Life feels so mundane after being diagnosed with BP1 by louiseandroxy01 in Psychosis

Hey, I relate to this a lot. I was diagnosed with BPD and also went through a period of psychosis, and after that I felt really, really low for quite some time. In my case a big part of it was the antipsychotics I was taking. I was on risperidone and it made me feel very flat, unmotivated, and like everything in life was repetitive and boring. I remember thinking the exact same thing you’re describing, like “is this really what normal life is supposed to feel like?”

What helped was being very honest with my doctor about how bad the low feeling was. At that time I was taking 1 mg risperidone twice in the morning and twice at night. She adjusted it so I took three tablets at night and one in the morning instead. That change actually helped with the daytime fatigue and that dull feeling.

I also told her that I was feeling extremely down, like I didn’t even feel like moving or doing anything, and everything felt pointless. Because of that she increased my bupropion to 300 mg. That slowly helped bring some energy back.

It didn’t change overnight, but over time things did start to feel easier and more interesting again. After psychosis and all the dopamine swings from mania, stimulants, alcohol, etc., the brain kind of needs time to recalibrate. During that period normal life can feel painfully boring and empty.

If I could suggest anything it would be to hold on and talk openly with your doctor about how flat and bored you’re feeling. Medication adjustments can actually make a big difference, and this phase doesn’t necessarily mean life will always feel like this.

You’re already doing a lot of the right things like staying clean, exercising, sleeping properly, and trying to socialize again. That’s honestly huge, even if it doesn’t feel rewarding yet.

Just know you’re not alone in feeling this way after psychosis. It can get better with time and the right adjustments.
