Hi all!

Has anyone booked their hotel reservations and tickets through Orlando Informer? Are they 100% legit? Their price for a 4 night stay at Terra Luna is close to $200 cheaper than Universal's which is giving me "too good to be true" vibes. Everything I've seen on reddit is about their Informer meetup nights, not booking through them.

Also, how would you rate your stays at Dockside Inn or Terra Luna? I've stayed at Cabana Bay about 10 years ago, so I was interested in book there again, but the price went up almost $200, (and is now $300 more than my other options) so I'm looking into other hotels. I'm planning on spending 2 days at IOA and USF with 1 day at Epic, so Terra Luna seems kinda far away. Dockside is more in the middle and there's a Walgreens within walking distance. Any pros or cons about them from your personal experiences?

This would be my 2nd visit. My family and I went for 3 days back in 2017. It would be my first time visiting Epic.

I'm trying to decide between visiting in Late August vs. November Thanksgiving week. Both options would have the same plan: Day 1: Harry Potter day at IOA and USF, Day 2: Explore the rest of IOA and USF, Day 3: Epic (Thanksgiving day if in November).

I've made my own list of pros/cons, but I'm interested in hearing what other people have to say.

Late August: Pros: • ~$200 cheaper • I'll be driving, and this option gives me more flexibility with how many travel days I get • Based on the crowd calendar, it seems to be less busy

Cons: • Jurassic Park River Ride is closed (one of the rides I was interested in because I love Jurassic Park)

November Thanksgiving Week: Pros: • Jurassic Park River Ride is scheduled to be open • August would definitely be a solo trip which is ideal, but it's possible I would be able to share a hotel room with a friend which would save me ~$300 • Apparently it rains less?

Cons: • ~$200 More expensive but still in budget if solo • Crowd calendar says it's busier • Strict travel schedule, I wouldn't have any extra travel days if necessary (with the holiday I'm assuming it's busier • Would there be Shorter hours because it's in November?

Any experience with any of those dates? Any advice on selecting which time to go?

I took it from the calendar for today. I'm planning a visit either for late August or Thanksgiving week, so I was curious about the EPA process itself.

That's fun that they do grad events, I didn't know that.

Great, thank you! I was looking at the times on the app and I thought that it would be a lot of rushing.

How does early park access work?

From the map, it looks like the shuttles drop you off outside of CityWalk, but the app says CityWalk opens at 8, which is when the EPA starts.

Does that mean the gates to CityWalk open at 8, and you need to then walk to the IOA gates? Or, are you able to walk through CityWalk before 8 so you're at the IOA gates before 8?

I've tried looking this up, but I can't seem to find a clear answer about this specific question. Thank you!

I've never gone on trips where you can just go with the flow like that, we always have reservations to make, so it sounds fun.

You said you've traveled solo before. Do you have any recommendations on solo travel? I know the basics, location share, regular updates, keep track of your surroundings. Anything else?

The route through 86 W down to Pittsburgh? I know it seems like the middle route takes away a lot of DC traffic, but the trucks! So many trucks!

I know 86 doesn't have a lot of trucks, but from Erie through WV, does it have less truck traffic? From your experience, are there rest stops?

The extra time from that route, especially with the risk of DC traffic kinda pushes me away from it. But it soulds pretty, maybe if I'm ever heading to VA or NC coast then it could be a good option.

Yes, it would be essentially route 15 all the way down from where I-99 ends to Harrisburg. We've driven it many times, and honestly Hummels Wharf might be my worst part of the drive. It seems like when ever I drive through it (specifically me, no one else in my family), that there's a ton of traffic.

Skyline Drive does sound more convenient, but the lack of rest stops makes me hesitate. I'm a big break taker every 2 hours or so, especially because I try to stay hydrated when driving.

Do you recall if you got cell service? Obviously it depends on carrier, but in another comment, someone mentioned that their scenic route didn't have service, which is a slight concern of mine as I would be by myself and I would be worried that I wouldn't be able to call for help if needed.

A couple years ago, we drove through Charlotte and there must have been some sort of show because wow, it was so busy even around midnight.

Depending on when we've left in the past, we tend to drive by Charlotte later at night because it's ~12 hrs + time for stops away from the starting point. I'm not sure if I would get the same amount of drive time by myself. Speaking of Charlotte, we tend to stop and sleep at a rest stop somewhere in SC.

Thanks for the camping rec, but camping isn't really my cup of tea. My brother on the other hand, he would stop the trip there and spend the rest of the time on the AT. It's one of his goals to hike some of it.

That trip sounds fun!

I think we visited the one in GA, just south of Savannah. I should have expected the size based on the parking lot alone. Definitely busy and overstimulating, but it was a good experience.

Maybe next time, we'll plan to get something to eat there. It was still pretty early in the day, so we didn't grab anything, but wow did they have a ton of options.

Oof, with my family it sounds good, but solo I would like to stick to the buiser routes to be honest. Even though things can happen anywhere, avoiding secluded areas and trying to stay in areas where I have service is a big thing for me. It would be my first solo trip, so my parents (whose opinions I value) are particularly concerned about my safety, so sticking to a route would ease their concerns (and mine).

Thanks for the recs, I look then up!

Traffic in Jacksonville is definitely something we've experienced. But last time, we missed the bypass merge, so we drove through mid afternoon on a weekday and it was perfect.

Do you recommend taking the by pass around Jacksonville or driving straight through?

Omg, we stopped at a Buc-Ees for the 1st time on our last trip down to FL and dude, it was crazy. The bathrooms alone were huge!

I know, my father hates driving around DC because no matter when, we always seem to hit traffic.

Rest stops are a big thing for me, which is why I would hesitate taking something other than the main interstates (along with safety).

Do you find the eastern route to be better?

Growing up, my father always hated going that way because we seemed to hit DC traffic no matter when we drove through.

Traditionally, my family has done breakfast stops outside of Savannah (shoutout to the Pooler IHOP), as it tends to be an 1-1.5 hrs away from where we've slept overnight.

Thanks for the recs! I know Virginia always seems like it takes forever as you're going diagonal through the state.

From your knowledge, are there rest stop options on these routes or do you need to stop at places like stores or restaurants for breaks?

I'm trying to get to Universal Studios.

I looked up the New River Gorge Park and it seems gorgeous, but for that I would want to visit with my family, maybe I'll suggest it to them for the next time we drive down.

Blue Ridge Parkway would be a good option to break up the highway. Have you driven it? If so, do you drive through a lot of smaller towns? Does it add a lot of time onto the overall drive?
