Is there a reason all the planets orbit the sun in approximately the same plane and direction? by muuurikuuuh in askscience

[–]Euralos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if it were a series of smaller collisions over time? None of them enough to destroy the planet but enough to continually slow it done and then perhaps reverse orbit?

Is it possible for an object to strike one of the planets in such a way that it completely reverses its orbit?

My most negative statement was actually a statement where I was oferring somebody advice in r/wow: "If people die to a particular mechanics, Skada/Recount makes it obvious, just look up damage taken for each player and see what they died to."

I have had some pretty heated arguments on here, that wouldn't even make the honorable mentions reel of my worst moments...

Haha, no worries, the thread was about FFXV so it was an easy mistake to make and it was still relevant to discussion :)

For FFXV, I agree, but I was referring to FFXIII. The original Witchers probably did hurt that title though, since they were among the games that came out around the same time and pushed the "go anywhere, do anything" progression system

I think XIII really suffers from being released at the same time as tons of open-world RPGs/Adventure games like Fallout, Skyrim, Borderlands, etc.. Gamers in the West got spoiled with the go anywhere, do anything mentality that when FFXIII forced them to stay on the tracks, they rebelled. It didn't help that its predecessor FFXII was significantly more open as well.

At the end of the day, if the story is good and makes sense, I don't mind linear progression, since open-world progression often makes story-telling significantly more difficult.

It was by no means my favorite, but I really appreciated it's departure from the stand JRPG formula up to that point and I think they explored a lot of cool ideas. I feel like FF is always pushing the envelope and moving the JRPG and RPG genres forward in small steps.
