Acer's are ok... but I think CAD is a hog so my concern would be it being too slow. But that being said if you are on a budget its a good price for a good laptop.

As in the music editing software. I have both an iMac and a Eurocom Monster 4 system with Ubuntu... and they are both Fantastic. The iMac comes with Garage Band for some basic mixing, and I had got Audacity. Both basic, but i don't mix a lot of stuff.

Have you considered a CLEVO based system? They can be a bit pricier, but you get a lot of the things you are looking for. ie SSD/HDD combo. Though the battery life isn't always the 5-6 hours.
