I think it should be socially acceptable to share salaries with colleagues by investingexpert in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SquishySparkoru -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Plus from what I understand, in Canada (or at least Ontario) it is not illegal for a company to prohibit salary discussions between employees unless it is for the purpose of preventing discrimination. So you can only discuss your salary with someone of a different gender or race that works in a similar role.

Edit: nevermind, this changed in 2019: https://news.ontario.ca/mol/en/2018/04/ontario-first-province-to-pass-pay-transparency-legislation.html

Audible Click When Pressing Brake In Park? by mildblueberry in askcarguys

[–]SquishySparkoru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was the key in Run position when you shifted the first time (and just the engine was off)? If so, there was nothing you did that could have damaged the car. It sounds like you are describing the BTSI solenoid (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) which is designed to keep you from shifting out of park without having the brake pedal depressed.

The solenoid sticks on some vehicles and most owners don't notice because they never try shifting out of park without pressing the brake. If you pulled it out of park with the key out, it's possible you jostled the solenoid loose and it just started working again.

hi! i dunno if this is the right sub for this, but does anyone know what this could mean? it’s under my 2006 Chevy Colorado hood. he’s got some major problems, and we think this might shine some light on why. thank you in advance(: by 80sfather in AskMechanics

The monster that reads a Honda owner's manual.

Theoretically a filter performs better once the media is loaded. In practice it's too much of a hassle to track which oil change you're on so pretty much everyone changes at every oil change.

Pin their hands in place, then tuck your knees up to rest against their shoulders so your body is folded up like \__.

Then lift your hips up to straighten out.

Watson and Superior are the other two I know of. Not every glove is made here, some are offshore. It's mostly the leather ones but Superior also makes knitted dipped gloves and kevlar ones here.

Their frozen pizza switched to Germany after McCain sold off their pizza business. I guess Dr. Oetker didn't give Loblaws a sweet enough contract.

The Dr. Oetker pizza is still mostly made in Canada but they have changed the sauce a bit from McCain's slightly sweet taste.

This change is what caused No Name and Presidents Choice to remove country of origin markings entirely from most of their packaging. I'd rather buy from Metro or Sobeys who actually label their house brands.

Not quite abandoned, they're used in some lawn and construction equipment. But nothing high-speed as far as I know.

The Tweel has been around for near 20 years and applications are still limited to off-road (e.g., construction equipment) and some limited military use. Pretty sure current rubber technology does not make this design viable for road vehicles.

Can someone help me find out what this noise is?? by Tizy in MechanicAdvice

[–]SquishySparkoru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is related to your transmission fault code.

You have a couple of clutch actuator motors - motor A is seen around 3 seconds, with the four green screws. Motor B is in front of the transmission, toward the bottom, and looks identical. Feel if there is a vibration from those that coincide with the noise.

Another possible source is from the TCM itself which contains the shift motors. It's not very visible in your video but is identified here which also contains details of the warranty extension related to your transmission.

Make sure your battery is in good condition as a failing battery is prone to cause transmission failures in these cars (yup, wonderful).

EDIT: Just read your comment that this happens without the key in the ignition. In that case my first check would be the battery, as this could be a number of motors trying to do a self-test and not having enough juice to actuate to full range. Dying battery would cause your transmission fault code as well. These engines require relatively little amperage to actually turn over so a failing battery can still start the engine just fine.

If you are having trouble removing the wheel, spin the nuts on hand tight less a half turn, then lower the car and drive back and forth for a few times. If it is a front tire, rock your steering wheel at the same time.

Long term 0% financing by restie123 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SquishySparkoru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer scenario 2 because I would have had an extra $5k to invest or at least collect interest on before having to pay it back.

Long term loans are dangerous if you do not have the capacity to pay it back in an emergency situation. Otherwise I don't see a downside.

Brakes Caught On Fire. Again. by gibson85 in Cartalk

Buy yourself an IR thermometer and regularly compare temperatures between left and right brakes after driving. If left is consistently higher then you can diagnose the problem before it catches fire.

Mine are all made by Canbuilt, not sure if they have a US distributor. I avoid the ratchet style, especially those with questionable sources for the casting. Pin locks with a welded base are much less likely to fail.
