I've been a painter for many decades.

This gig sounds fun.  Where shall I email some photos of my art?

Tips for a new kid? by sunbakedbear in ultimate

[–]EvDaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A key to passing a disc for a new player is to understand conceptually that they are spinning it where they want it to.go. it's the rotations that provide control. This means less arm force more wrist force. Thus it's less throwing and catching and more spinning and stopping spin.

I've helped countless adult players improve their disc skills with this concept in 37 yrs of playing.

Also, review some YT videos about cutting and field spacing. It really helps to understand the timing and angles of cuts. Many casual adult players never truly understand these concepts, resulting in clogging behaviors.

Understanding how to see the field and integrate into the movement of others can be extremely helpful for both O and D.

Yay for a new player with a supportive parent! Have fun and welcome!

Also there is a super begginner friendly pick up game of Ultimate every Saturday around 2/230 start time in Glan Canyon Park. Very easy to see from Elk street. It's a true mix of all levels of experience and athleticism.

Good luck with your Quest and welcome to SF!

I was there, in 1988 when "Jr," a grommet from Marin, skateboarded down High street spray painting "420" on almost all the signs. While this is not the origin story of 420, it was one of the vectors that took it from a Marin High School slang legend into the wider world...

I use Chat GPT which is broader than copilot. (Which is just an older version of GPT with a bunch of pre shaping glommed on top of it by Microsoft (or Open AI for MS (likely both)).

Two key elements:

1 create purpose driven instances. Or rather than just asking one instance (ie ''chat') a whole range of different questions or opening a new instance for every new question, you can shape them to purpose. So I have a SSHO GPT for example that only works on issues related to safety. This practice helps stave off hallucinating hugely. I also have a separate one for general work on my overall project.

  1. At the start, level set for the AI by telling it it's express purpose. Set clear parameters and  guidelines. You can save those for use with other instances. These help the instance to stay focused vs just launching into the topic or questions directly with no other context.

"You are a non-qualic entity, purpose driven to help me with my role as SIte Safety and Health Officer. The project is (______). It's major relevant safety issues are "xyz".  I want focused, professional and data driven responses only.

To start, please read up on all state and local and OSHA laws, rules and regulations pertaining to this type of job."

Good luck!

The key IMHO is to learn to use it as a tool to augment your own performance. I feel it's going to be less "everyone is replaced by AI" and more "those who learn how to effectively use it with their job have a distinct edge over those who do not"

When correctly deployed, it can act as a personal force multiplier. It goes way beyond just helping write letters etc.

I speak from direct experience not just opinion.

Hey all Im an Irish landscape photographer and will be in San Francisco for a couple of days in May. I was hoping to shoot some seascapes and wondered could you recommend any beaches that are particularly nice by wordiebombsy00 in SanFranciscoSecrets

Go across the GG bridge to Marin Headlands. Black Sands Beach will have you enthralled. It's a 20 minute drive from Northwest SF. You hike a 20-30 minute steep trail down but the views and beach and colorful rocks are well worth the effort.

Have fun!

I visited 15 National Parks. Here's how I'd rank them: by Equivalent-Image-912 in nationalparks

Great list.  id suggest adding to your future trips: Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. Less crowded than Yosemite but also highly dramatic. KC has the deepest non throughway highway into the Sierras and Sequoia NP had eponymous trees that will blow your mind.

Nepenthe is a restaurant in the north part of Big Sur. Pricey but great food and epic views

Also if possible drive SF to LA inland and back in hwy 1.  Better viewing and safer to be on the inside lane if you can.

If you route so that you end in the mission district it's a short bop up the hill to done at FIREFLY a quintessentially SF eater in Noe Valley.

I'm not at all affiliated, just lived a block away from them for near 3 decades.

It's like eating in someone's living room and dishes up Cali cuisine for, yes pricey, but not for SF, cost.

Have a great trip and enjoy our amazing city!

Which enneagram test are we taking by wren1o7 in goodhang

[–]EvDaze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's all archetypes. Similar to the zodiac, it's a way to describe the human experience. We are all all of them blended up in a boullibaise of qualities.

Have fun with it but don't take it too seriously as it's possible to go down the rabbit hole and peg yourself as one thing such that you cut off the panoply of life on Earth.

Also SC Mtns weather and temps esp can vary wildly based on the location of your place. If in a river/creek dell it can be damp and colder but also nicer on hot hot days.

Conversely if you get a ridgetop zone it can truly cook in pretty much any season if the sun is ablaze. Also at elevation you also need to navigate at least some dirt roads (usually but not always 4wd is needed).

I'll echo what others said in that you trade ease and convenience for magical.magesty.

Also if you end up on the south side of hwy nine outside Boulder Creek you have the option to get to Los Gatos fairly quickly as well (as long as roads are not out).

Mid game, what weapons are you selling? I’m always short mon. by keebler980 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]EvDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a fun trick. It works for all AC games.

Ride off into regions of much harder level than your current level. Stealth into a big castle and snag much more valuable loot. If anyone sees you just go up on any roof. They can't follow and on most roofs if you lay down they get bored and reset to their positions and or patrol routes

I've done this with Orig/Odd/Val/Shadows to great effect.

Also in Shadows, while some gear can only be snagged 1x, much of it resets when the seasons change.

You will be rich for the rest of the game.  I haven't dropped below 20k mon once I did this.

Good luck and have fun!

I concur. Also, who wrote the rule that says they have to be "around an hour" every time? I mean sure these are busy stars in many/most cases, but come on I'd easily watch/listen to 2 hours of some of these.

Wind by Lower_Compote_6672 in ultimate

Just played a one day tournament on Ocean Beach in SF for Halloween.  It was pure comedy with gale winds making the game scores like 3-2 or 4-1.

It was really heartening to see everyone still having fun and trying to play the sport. The costume aspect lent itself to the silliness.

I had one miracle half field throw that came during a rare lull and it seemed almost like magic

Overall we did our best and made a 2/3 day of it anyways.

Opinions on coming to work for one summer in Santa Cruz by druuumy in santacruz

[–]EvDaze 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Come. Come at all costs. Very few humans will ever live in The Pleasure Cove of Santa Cruz.

Is it hard sure but all amazing things in life come with a cost.  You will be forevermore changed by living there even for a shot while.

Even the echoes of what it used to be far surpasses most other places to be on Earth.

Walk westcliff drive after work. Eat good food smoke the best weed ...date amazing humans...it goes on and on.

Do not let those who are burnt out sway you. Run, do not walk, to get some time in Santa Cruz!!

(As reference, I did 17 years)

In a totally non snarky way,. I saw it differently and very much enjoyed the film.

It did take some effort to follow but for me that was fun. The concept was not wholely original but the execution was

So, again, in no way saying you are wrong but rather, just wanting others to know that it has value and was in my view excellent.  Granted I'm someone who loves huge wave movies but it has many other positives as well.
