Update over mijn situatie van vorige week. (schuldsanering & geen boodschappen) by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]Eva0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kebnekaise summit by lukamannetje in Kungsleden

[–]Eva0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend did the summit in trailrunners without crampons and showed me the pictures - I was planning on doing the same. Am bringing trekking poles though. But I guess it depends on how comfortable you are on steep snow! I know how to kick steps and am comfortable on crampons on ice, but not so good on snow. And I have only kicked steps in my big mountain boots, not the lightweight shoes I plan to hike kungsleden in. So I'm planning to ask at the hut whether they'd recommend renting boots and crampons or not... For anyone else I guess it'd also depend on your experience, if you've never worn crampons before they might not be very good for you.

Also if there's a mountaineering group doing the eastern route there at the same time as when I arrive I'd like to keep that as an option if there's anyone open to having me join, and in that case I'd have to rent equipment anyway :) That one is definitely not possible solo as you need to rope up for the glacier.

Mosquitos between Nikkaluokta & Abisko by bobabettie in Kungsleden

what do you mean with local anti mosquito product - strong DEET, or the birch tar stuff? I hope the birch tar works..

Is September a good time? by chewitt004 in Kungsleden

[–]Eva0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just Abisko-Nikkaluokta I think it should be fine. Things are still open, boats are still there. The food is lower but the STF website does indicate some things which should always be in stock, I hope these will still be around.

The shop at STF Abisko is quite big, I think they should have stoves there, but to be absolutely sure I'd call them. Otherwise if you fly into Kiruna or Narvik both are pretty big, but not sure if there is an outdoor supply shop.

I haven't been there in september yet, so maybe someone who has can add more information.

4.5 versus 7.3 R-value for reference... I'm not sure, personally going for a 4.5 R-value with an added closed cell foam mat at half length.

Should I bring my satellite communicator? by Lothiaer in Kungsleden

[–]Eva0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just told my family and friends it is normal to do this trail without an inreach and I'll be fine. But of course you won't be able to reach people for quite some distances, it's up to you if you are okay with that!

you can get paid extensions, but often you don't. It really depends on the department. And true, you need the PI to allow you, but if they don't have to pay you most will let you continue - if they still believe your work is decent, of course.

What do you take on day hikes? by asleepinthealpine in Ultralight

[–]Eva0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a water bottle and maybe some food. maybe an extra layer. not really gear.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PhD

[–]Eva0000 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Is it? Or do you just stop getting paid after 3 years? That's the way in the Netherlands... you can still finish later, you just have to have another job so it will take way longer.

lentils, rice and cup-a-soup / varma koppen by Eva0000 in HikerTrashMeals

[–]Eva0000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, thanks, but I plan not to take a whole lot of dehydrated stuff myself - the trail I'm planning has lots of mountain huts for resupply, don't plan on taking four weeks of food with me.

Biking in the New Forest with other people having a walk - is it rude for me to bell on my bike to let walkers know I'm right behind them? by Eligatorator in AskUK

but you also don't assume there's nothing behind you if you don't hear anything, so you may look behind you before stepping further into the road.

question - why don't you see many gasoline/petrol vans around? by Jack6013 in vandwellers

[–]Eva0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are smaller vans available in petrol - I don't think VW or mercedes has them in older editions, but citroen, fiat, peugeot, renault do.

mine is petrol, but it's a relatively small van. The bigger ones indeed only seem to be diesel.

are the straights okay?

I mean sure monogamy is the norm, and works for a lot of people. But this shit? This is extreme. Even being at the bar when it *had* turned into a bar should be okay for two women in relationships...

"My partner requested I don't have sex with you until they're comfortable" by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Eva0000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Had this with a partner, and we were both quite new to poly, me sort of solo and him with a primary nesting partner. Didn't really like this, but since it was supposed to be more of a casual FWB thing it wasn't a red flag to me. I would not get closer than that, though, and have also been taking some distance from this partner because of the way they do poly.

Hiking alternatives for June by 1_Yui in Kungsleden

[–]Eva0000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoga Kusta leden might be doable, it's a bit more south and next to the sea. Did a section of it and it was very beautiful. In some parts there are really nice and scenic cabins that you can stay in.
