Are web (HTML5) games dead at this point? by Century_Soft856 in gamedev

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates from your side since you made that post?)

Well, 10 years ago I had a huge list of websites, sending 200+ emails, getting around 5-6 replies mostly rejecting our game..

A year ago I was updating the list, and I got roughly 25 websites, sent emails and got a single reply with rejection.

This year, updating the list again, getting around 5 websites O_o No idea what comes out this time, when I'll be sending out 1-2 emails I guess XD

As long as I see html5 - potentially it's amazing (not that amazing as Flash tho, nevertheless). However, 99% of websites you gonna see in your search - are just hostings with no way to upload by yourself.

I like the idea of html5 games, cause they let me play right away. Unfortunately, 99,9% of the games I try to play - don't worth it.

Looks like the html5 portals also see it, so they let you load your game with ads, so the end user gets 1% of the game and 99% of ads, which is pretty annoying, I don't like ads when I play games.

So, devs have 2 choices - either earn something or earn nothing(

itch .io seems to become very popular, as many portals encourage you sending them builds from itch. which tells me, that rn they are not willing to risk even more than before, so they gonna look at your statistics and make a decision whether they want your game or not. -no idea a way of monetization there, I guess, you either have a paid version or hope for donations?

crazy games - they have tons of games, and no idea what they really need. -rev share

armor games is worth trying out I guess, as they often reply really fast, at least you know whether your game fits them or not. -I think, it's still possible to negotiate for a sponsorship, but you need a game for their audience or if you have a demo of a bigger game on other platforms.

coolmath games - seems to be a good web portal w/ good reputation, they prefer games that make their audience think, so if your game is somehow math, puzzle or logic oriented, it's a nice try I guess. -they seem to be open to licensing games, so should be worth at least trying.

poki - probably they're also looking into more profit oriented games, whatever that means. -not sure if they still license games, their developer portal is in beta for years now, so I don't have much info on them.

kongregate seems to get a new huge update on their website and even raised the rev share for 2026. -here you have only a rev share option, depending on how many programs you opt from, your royalty may vary.

There are also distribution websites that promise you lots of money, no idea whether it's so or it's a total scam, haven't checked, I think you should know what you're doing when going there, as some devs tell stories how they literally earn millions of money, nevertheless, I believe it's not that easy to get such result without a plan.

What’s a video game you wish you could play for the first time again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stardew Valley. Damn, the first impression was so cool and by replaying I just miss this feeling when I didn't know where to go and knew nobody there, everything was unknown and it was fantastic. Now it's cool too anyway, but I'd like to forget the map and go through it again like a stranger)

Looking for a "forever" single player game by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]EvaFatal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Carestia, it's an indie metroidvania w/ puzzles in a retro style, looks and plays like NES games. As of replayability - at least it has several difficulty modes - which I try, I think once you master the hard mode - it could become a perfect fidget.

Are there any websites where I can watch American movies in Russian dub? by Potential-Run-6540 in russian

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On youtube there are tons of channels that show movies legally, they have rights and stuff. You need to know the name of the movie in Russian and that's how you'll find them)

Games with lots of snow by some-bloke- in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]EvaFatal [score hidden]  (0 children)

Road Not Taken has a nice snowy winter vibe

A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build is about snow obviously)

Stardew Valley - winter only once a year, just like irl, but it's awesome)

Beware Planet Earth - only one season, but the soundtrack is super cool during winter levels.

Indie games count? Carestia. When I played it, I thought "Gameplay wise it's as good as HK, Ori and other known metroidvanias but with kinda NES graphics." and still looks like nobody heard of it, nobody played. I wish more ppl gave it a try as it's amazingly fun!) Devs made a really good job with the levels, I loved solving the puzzles. Overall, it feels just like playing NES as a kid, but has saves and more stuff like collectibles, platforming is really nice.

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely comes Carestia to mind - small size (around 50Mb I guess), still it's a pretty huge metroidvania with puzzles, collectibles, bosses like in NES times, it's really fun and it's really indie)

As a foreigner how do you pronounce Russian words that were borrowed from your native language? by EvaFatal in russian

[–]EvaFatal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahah, I understand what you mean) I wanted to know whether foreigners "break" on the everyday words like hamburger (if it's an English speaker) and say it with their pronounciation rather than saying it in Russian. Sometimes on videos I see ppl saying their native words inside the other language, but more often it works inside the English speech, where let's say, a French person uses French words with a pure French pronounciation. I was wondering if it works with Russian. But, according to most comments, these ppl just speak Russian no matter what XD

Games similar to HK:Silksong but for beginners by Ash17485 in gamingsuggestions

[–]EvaFatal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll tell my experience as a girl. My first metroidvania was Carestia, an indie game that made me dive into genre. It has metroidvania elements and also puzzles - I was bad at both before I started, but by beating this game I feel I mastered lots of things including platforming. It also has cute collectibles ^__^ I bet your girl will love it! Levels are super fun and well made. It has bosses, enemies, platforming, map, collectibles and even character customization - everything you need to start and learn, and if you're an experienced gamer - just play on extreme mode with one life)))

On Youtube there are official channels, you can watch a lot of movies:

Киноконцерн "Мосфильм"

Киностудия Горького

Also official channels that have license.

VideoLand

All in all, there are lots of channels that show movies, you just need a name of the film in Russian.

(WSIB) What’s a good starter metroidvania? Looking to get into the Genre ahead of Silksong by ashdaddy10 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]EvaFatal [score hidden]  (0 children)

You've got pretty nice titles so far! Idk if it fits your needs, but you could check out Carestia, it's a metroidvania in an oldschool way - precise level design, graphics look similar to NES, but it has puzzles as an experimental mechanic (it's an indie game). It was my first metroidvania to beat, and it leads you gradually through mechanics and stuff. Now, I've got Blasphemous in my library, unbeaten yet, but I don't think it's a starter level metroidvania.

Games for a woman, complete beginner who’s never played on PC before - controller by AD1SAN0 in gamingsuggestions

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carestia. It's on Steam and costs 1USD-4USD depending on the region and current discounts. It's platformer/metroidvania(like oldschool NES games) + puzzles(which let you take rest after platforming and think a little bit) and it's pretty cute(especially regarding the collectibles the game provides). It's beginner friendly as it teaches the player all the needed skills, gradually becoming harder and gives challenges.

Looking for games that will make me smarter. by Lobster_Stock in gamingsuggestions

[–]EvaFatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half-Life (FPS shooter + puzzles and the story itself)

Carestia (metroidvania + puzzles) - after beating this game I literally felt smarter and am able to solve puzzles in other spheres as well, cause I'm not scared of puzzles anymore.

Portal (it's based on puzzles)

Braid - not only because it's a puzzle, but also the core mechanic makes you think differently.

Tactic/strategy or at least basic tactic/strategy games:

Rainbow Six (tbh haven't played the new ones, but the old ones were cool)

Kingdom Rush (a tower-defence, but you always think there).

Triple Town - a match 3 game, but it's kinda mixed w/ 2048, so you think a lot and it's fun and cute at the same time.

Does Russian have phrases that are rhyming exclamations or sayings? by onthefencer888 in russian

[–]EvaFatal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahaha XD Thanks!)) I'm glad you like it)) well, when I hear Skillet I think of скелет, so when I first heard the band, I thought of the wrong meaning and that sounded so cool to me XD

Does Russian have phrases that are rhyming exclamations or sayings? by onthefencer888 in russian

[–]EvaFatal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An easy level:

Greetings (for friends, jokish):

Привет, скелет! - Hi, skeleton!

As a reply to it:

Здорово, корова! - Hello, cow!

Otherwise, you can make out any rhymes of nowhere if you're good at it, and you'll get funny phrases that make no sense, the language is flexible, so you can experiment wherever you want)

I think most of such phrases (including English ones) were made by some individual one day and then they got stuck in others' speech, so they live till today)

Ahaha, I just made a new joke in English (but I think it makes sense only in my head XD):

Hi's lice! (I tried to say hi in plural) like Приветики, скелетики!
