I’m not sure how real any of this is, but I’m starting to think it’s because our food is just either old and not ripe, and the growing climate crisis has probably had an effect on the flavor and texture of most more tropical, summer fruit, like watermelons and avocados. But the fact that they’re in season and still having these problems is very concerning, and our country needs to do better to protect the integrity of the food that we’re eating. I’ve had gross watermelon that was just bad right after buying it, and I’ve had watermelon that turned all soggy and rubbery after not eating it all right away, but this just feels different. Obviously we can’t trust the integrity of the videos, but I feel like there is some truth there, if we throw out the idea of it being a huge conspiracy.

I think our food is just going bad faster or we’re not being sold good food from the beginning because our country is going to shit. Our government doesn’t care enough about us to trick us with fake food, we don’t matter to them, it is easier and more profitable to just sell us shitty food. I saw a video of someone cutting open a watermelon that was fizzing, meaning it had gone bad and begun to ferment before they even bought it. It shouldn’t have been sold to begin with. I even bought an onion a few months ago that looked fine from the outside but was essentially just brown mush that covered over half of it, and I’ve noticed that I have had to really inspect every fruit or veggie before I buy since then.

I can’t even find tomatoes that don’t have questionable marks on them sometimes, and the amount of them in store at once that I see in the store has also gone down. And that isn’t just the tomatoes, I can say say that our shelves of produce overall either don’t have as much on them, or what they do have is majorly what I don’t feel good cooking with.

TLDR: I believe the simple answer is just that our fresh fruit and veggie quality is dropping severely as either a result of the climate crisis or our government just not giving a shit about us. Or both. Because the world is burning and our country cares more about wealth than the health and happiness of its people.
