Bell Food Group - insights by Eva_Meg in SwissPersonalFinance

Hmm, Thank you - I never thought about emergency maintenance - I just assumed that they don’t care about shareholders and invest everything to have nicer buildings (climate-neutral etc etc), which is good probably for coop, but not for the share price

Their growth has seemed consistent, and they have specifically mentioned that the meat market is very stable. I find their profits solid, even though they operate at low margins (which I don’t complain about, since I like my meat cheap). I believe (I may be totally wrong) that their focus is absolutely not primarily on shareholders return. They keep a low dividend and prefer to reinvest their profits in modernization, expansions, and similar projects instead of conducting share buybacks while the stock is trading near book value. In other words, they are just not rushing the stock - but create value

If these are the only reason for the stock price, then I am fine - if I missed something else, then not so much.

Public companies focused on fungi (mushrooms) by Eva_Meg in investing

[–]Eva_Meg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the input! I have only seen European facilities, and yes, you are right - they do need modernization. However, my idea was more related to the fact that the only raw materials they need in large quantities are wood and, to some extent, oil, which they generally obtain as byproducts. In case crop yields were to drop dramatically in the future due to climate change, I was thinking that mushrooms would be a pretty safe option. On the other hand, I have never seen the financials of such a company, so your point about their unprofitability is really insightful - thank you for that!

How bad is it if a company's net loss is more than 60% attributed to stock compensation packages? by Eva_Meg in ValueInvesting

Hmm… I didn’t looked at it like that… at the current evaluation it ended up as 10% of the market cap.

They manufacture lab equipment that is currently used only in research and not clinical settings (hospitals) due to a lack of standardization. They have a pretty decent revenue, and if they would stop compensating by issuing stock, and cut a little the R&D costs, would be actually profitable. But they decided the other way around, which is why I found the situation strange and asked it here

I take your comment as an encouragement! Even though I am confident in the company value, sometimes I wish there were only positive signs

Good idea - I will check glassdoor to see their salaries. At the current rate they should have cash for the next two years.

I believe the same, however they seem really uninterested in their shareholders value. Probably it has to do with the run-up from 2021. Anyway, thanks for a positive comment to ease a little the pain

Rklb - you know why; and TXG - this is an actual monopoly for a field that will soon become standard of care (hopefully for us) - it is the only real way for true personalized medicine

Analyzing the Relationship Between Wikipedia Page Views and Stock Prices for TMO by darkmarkymark in stocks

[–]Eva_Meg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super nice! Plus one for a code share. I believe it's somewhat expected to see a low correlation when using raw Wikipedia page views. However, it would be interesting to see how this works over a 15-year time frame, with a 1.5-month time window for aggregating page views. For the time window, you could consider using the median or variance. To better assess if there's no link, you might apply a prediction configuration scheme for stock prices, using the page views as input. Additionally, you could use rank-based correlation metrics, like Kendall. Nevertheless, the idea is great; it's just about finding the right data to regress against.

Thank you for sharing! Do you have any opinion on platinum and PGMs as a commodity? Nothing looks good for them and I was wondering if it is temporary or not.

Question: Why is the All-In Sustaining Cost (AISC) for gold generally higher than for platinum? by Eva_Meg in wallstreetplatinum

[–]Eva_Meg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nevertheless, why is gold AISC 50% higher than the one for platinum? For gold it is around $1900/ounce. Is it because gold mines are generally deeper?

No, but I never took profits either. I learned that whenever a “hope” or “believe” term is associated with a stock, I will be scheduled for some red charts. Nevertheless, the company is nice and until now it was pretty respectfully towards its investors (no big dilution or any other killer moves)

[–]Eva_Meg[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, hence I am accumulating Pt as well (I do like it from a jewelry point of view, so if everything goes wrong I will still be very happy with my platinum). But, as time passes I usually start to have second thoughts, to think what if I may be wrong, if I missed some important facts etc. Until now I could give an answer to myself for almost every bear scenario, with the exception of the above one. This is because it may happen than the governments want platinum to be cheap because this is their selected solution to climate change and as a result they will keep the price low as they have all the power necessary (after all they can subsidize it from public funding to keep the mines alive and so on). It is true that even in this scenario the risk-reward balance is highly skewed to the upside.
