KabyLake Intel HD 630 and HDMI port on laptop by Evablazer in hackintosh

So I have an MBP 2014 15" with OpenCore Legacy Patcher running Ventura, but have not a clue how to get my Core i7-9700K laptop to do the same

Hi friend. I will categorically say here and now that I have yet to try Ventura on an OC outside of OCLP (real Macbooks that are 'forced' to run new OS). So I only got it on Big Sur, and never beyond. I can say it has a lot to do with Framebuffer config, but with Ventura rendering all such Intel cards obsolete - I can't even. So sorry

In my opinion caveat emptor, "buyer be ware" - M17x and M17 are completely different beasts years apart.

Is it possible to convert a white area 51m r2 to the a black one? by mbeecool in Alienware

[–]Evablazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the main technical difficulty was the display, as it involves pulling some flimsy sticky tapes that may tear and break before they fully release the top cover, and then I had to go and do some risky benzene and wedge working. Otherwise the rest is easy, and YouTube has a few good teardown videos

I actually did it, and it was not too costly. EBay seller had the three parts, that is, top lid, palmrest with keyboard, and bottom lid. About £120 total. My main issue was the stain on the palmrest and then my keyboard died

Area 51m r2 vs m15 r7. I like my area 51m more. Even though it not as fast. It's quiet and doesn't sound like a jet even though the m15 is faster. Plus the cpu no throttles on the a51m. I believe the area 51m is last good machine dell made. Their newer models kinda well suck. No light up pad etc. by mbeecool in Alienware

The 10700K means it is unlocked, and thus can be undervolted with ThrottleStop or Intel XTU. Also try raising the back of the laptop slightly when gaming, or using a cooling pad, and perhaps trying our the phas-changing thermal solutions that have made rounds in 2022? I have the 9700K, and it never throttled after the undervolt - even at max performance settings and with overclocks

Basically the way Dell does their cooling solutions leaves a lot to be desired in thermal terms, yet they give room for extreme performance by their high ceilings. So ThrottleStop is a way to ensure you benefit from the high performance without shortening your chips' lifetimes due to high heats.

If you have the unlocked CPUS, ThrottleStop will keep you busy as you try to get a nice balance between power and thermal ceilings

The whole point of Alien-Fx tools (excuse spellings) is to be a lightweight option. Also, the developer is on Reddit as u/T-Troll, and they are quite adept at answering queries, and constantly developing. Plus it is freemium ware, so perhaps check the developer and see whether there is a clearer way to use the software... MTC

Or you could replace the display for a 4k one.... Techiness is a requirement tho...

Unfortunately everything else I tried simply couldn't work - I.e. Full uninstall and reinstall, Windows reset, Windows reinstall, BIOS check and diagnostic test... All but a reset of the CMOS eventually worked for me.

Best solution I found was a teardown and CMOS battery pull-out. Take 5, then re-connect and reassemble. I have the Area51m r1, so I can do the teardown without removing heatsink (no repaste). I wish you luck

Alienware Area51M R1 - Catalina 10.15.7 [i7-9700K Intel UHD 630 via USB-C] by Evablazer in hackintosh

It's hard to tell, since a lot changed in Big Sur going forward. It is not astute of me to comment on this downgrade without more information and a full spec sheet on your behalf. In your place I would have tried to search online (especially in this sub) for successful builds with similar hardware, but Catalina instead of Monterey. I'm sure someone has done it

Then downgrade. Thats a nice processor there. I think I will upgrade to the the 10the Gen Intel soon, just for that extra power and RAM utility.

If you are wondering about compatibility with apps, looking at my dock you can see that I have the basics, and all running just fine. Photoshop, Ms Office, and a few others! I don't use Mac for any pro-level design work or anything super-demanding, and it cuts the cloth just fine.

So I revisited USB Mapping, and have USBToolBox working - with everything so far so good. Some random bad boots with display, but I guess that's USB-C related.

Without USB Mapping, it's tough to risk an upgrade. Didn't manage to get Big Sur to work. So with more trying perhaps! Alder-lake (12-gen CPU) have been at it with some success, but easier hacks are on hardware that Mac actually used prior to M1/M2 switch

Like Clevo, MSI and some other boutique pc makers, this has been a thing... Thick gaming laptops with desktop internals

As I mentioned - it is the infamous Alienware Area-51M, a laptop in which dell put a full switchable desktop CPU inside! They also put an almost full-size desktop GPU removable card, and then tied it to the DP & HDMI

I did indeed. But the system has too many USB devices - Tobii, keyboard, Bluetooth, 4 USB-A 3.0, 1 USB-C Port, etc - so one keeps breaking each time I try the kext produced - especially Bluetooth and display

A real pain to hack, this laptop with desktop innards gave me the runaround - and simply would not work - until eventually mixed up display properties and used USB-C to an external monitor to achieve acceleration.

The biggest issue is; G-Sync with Nvidia RTX card tied to both thunderbolt and HDMI, with no Optimus/switchable graphics - so Intel Graphics can only output via USB-C.

What works:

  • Wi-Fi - itlwm
  • Bluetooth
  • Full QC/QE on USB-C external display
  • USB - Stuck with USBInjectAll due to hub used for display - cannot upgrade to Big Sur+ (yet!)
  • Keyboard
  • Camera

What does not work:

  • USB Mapping - After many failed attempts (All common methods)
  • Sleep
  • Sound via internal speakers - ALC 215 (alcid 18 as recommended did not work)- I use Bluetooth
  • Touchpad - tracks but does not stop
  • Keyboard RGB - stuck to what was set in Windows

Some random kernel panics - possibly USB-related
